Jay-Z Hangar Tour Show Review

jay-z hangar tour

Aiight so a few hours ago we were at the Hangar Tour kickoff for the Jay-Z “Kingdom Come” album. Three words were said on the way out …

What was that?

The show once again proved just how much Hip-Hop fans are getting flim-flammed by the marketing and BUSINESS THAT Hip-Hop has BECOME. The art and music is secondary.
Ok. With that said.. the concert(?) or show was not performed at a hanger (marketing) it was performed at a concert venue like most other shows and this particular Atlanta show was scheduled and pretty much started at 6 in the morning.

Yes 6 AM. So in my opinion in all the show was basically alot of hype and there was not much to it in the form of substance at all really. Jay-Z got on stage did like 8 joints (mostly half songs) and was like aiight I gotta bounce out to the next spot because he has to do 7 concerts in 17 hours or whatever the hell it is. Remembering that I watched (on the way in… ha ha) as fans waited in the cold on a line that was around the corner and down the block at 5 am to see your boy jump on stage right quick do mostly his mediocre commercial tracks … sprinkle in a few of his real hits and then bounce. It just felt like a hustle in the end.

It felt like a hustle. 7 concerts in whatever amount of hours is good for Jay-Z because he will eat off that hype but the fans did not get full off that… Actually some probably did and they will probably go buy the album. Jay-z set it off with Kingdom Come and Memphis Bleek on sole hype man duty. DJ Green Lantern spinning. No Reasoable Doubt tracks were performed. He performed 30’s the new 20, a verse from another Kingdom Come album track where he does the “Little Ni**a play on words, Big Pimpin, Jigga That Ni**a, Hola’ Hovito, Izzo (H.O.V.A.), and he performed some other radio friendly tracks from his albums I dont care if I ever remember and then ended it off with Encore.

So when is Nas’ “Hip-Hop is Dead” droppin again?

Digg!

    “I’m not a business man, i’m a business..man”

would like to say i’m surprised, but i’m not. between responding to Jim Jones, attempting to form a pride rift b/t brooklyn/harlem and putting his release date ahead of his main project Nas..

what are you doing Hov? looks like your ‘divorce’ might’ve not been for the better; at least Dame used to give you real talk, instead of applauding you when you’re looking sloppy.

I wouldnt expect a stellar show. But what I did expect was it to be in a hangar. So since it was in a regular concert cenue, I consider it false advertising.

you still went and if you didnt think that he was gonan rush through some of the set you must be out your mind plus it was free what was you really thinkin was gonna happen having ice sculputer trapeze artists and fireworks? 7 cities in a day is unheard of that should get merit alone

I guess hating is a full-time sport. Here’s a crazy idea… Applaud a business man who is one of hip hop finest, elevating the game. If not for the business sense of Jay, alot of other artist would still be getting raped. “Pay us what you owe us for all of the years you hoed us.” In short, get cha weight up, not ya hate up!!

Yeah, I agree with what he said!!!

  6. 6 yeah chea Nov 18th, 2006 at 6:03 pm

Applaud hot music. So half concerts is elevating the game?
The new Jay-z album is good. His audience is no longer people who like reasonable doubt. He’s making records to get new listeners and a global audience now not for hiphop heads so you know I can see why the show went like its being described.

WHAT WAS THE FEE? IF IT WAS FREE STOP COMPLAININ!! THIS WAS STRICTLY TO PROMOTE THE NEW ALBUM. FOR THE TRUE FANS. NOT FOR THE BANDWAGON JUMPIN’ DIPSET DICKRIDERS. DO YOU HOV. THE WORLD IS WATCHING. PHILLY STAND UP!! I’M GONE…..

Like chris rock said..”You low expectation havin muthatfuka”

So what that it was free I’ve seen the roots live in central park for free, big, the fugees and wu-tang in harlem for free. A weak shows a weak show and a hot shows a hot show. $0 or $20. Maybe other shows on the tour were better.

people need to give Jay Z respect for the work he puts in.
this man runs a multimillion dollar company in a multibillion dollar industry on a daily basis and still takes time out of a ( grown man ) schedule to do something half of these cats barely do, on a business schedule that in no way mirrors Jiggas schedule, and he has to pop back at haters everytime. On top of that he has to have a life of his own. Blame it on the rap public that allow less motivated artists to give blue ball performances and get away with it. Jigga deserves way more respect than yall give him.

If you think your time is any less valuable than anyone elses then you lost one.

  11. 11 BIG O Nov 18th, 2006 at 10:59 pm

What did you expect? For him to give a full fledge 5 hour performance!!? My man Jay is hot and he is going to stay hot! There is no other m.c. to do it as big as Jay, haters can come in and say what they want, but at the end of the day remember “no other m.c. has done it as big as Jay” and lyrically he makes everybody step there game up to a higher level, all of this ballin’ and platinum this and that, all of this fonzarelli swagger came from who Jay! He is the best to ever do it, you all can say Tupac or Biggie, but neither one is here, and the only one that is and is making clothes, part owner of the New Jersey nets, sneakers, liquor company, ceo of rocafella records, president of def jam records, has plush cashmere clubs around the world, co brand director for Budweiser, got Knighted and has a title Sir Shawn Carter fo real not like Charles Barkley, gives scholarships away, is working on a water system in parts of Africa, first to step up to the plate for hip hop on 9/11, donated a million to hurricane katrina victims in lousiana and humbles himself to squash the beef with nas and still comes home to hit the baddest chick in the game now! what c’mon!! no one else, no one……….!!!

  12. 12 BIG O Nov 18th, 2006 at 11:32 pm

oh yeah what up lil bro!! glad you got on!

  13. 13 CrooklynNY Nov 18th, 2006 at 11:56 pm

DJ Green Lantern is spinning for Jigga now? Dude used to cut my hair at C.R.E.A.M. barber shop up hear in Rochester when i was a kid…anyway…Jigga blowin thru venue to venue doin half ass shows can’t be good for the fan in the club…but in the long run dude just tryin to promote his shit….. 30’s the new 20 is CLASSIC

  14. 14 haitikid/brooklynking Nov 19th, 2006 at 4:23 am

yo why is niggaz complaining bout this shit wasn’t it freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, danm who else can do it like this , a nigga screaming baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalin and his video looks as fake as the watch in arm stop yappin it’s jay everyday nigga no day offf

  15. 15 brooklyniteOne Nov 19th, 2006 at 10:40 am

yo this blog here is about the particular event and not a critique on the man. Lets stay focused. And yeah 30’s the new 20 is a banger.

  16. 16 samori Nov 19th, 2006 at 11:17 am

no doubt Big O,….. and trying to stay focused on the event……. is hard when Jay is the event! point blank, aint nobody doing it like this, peole just need to respect the game, how much of a show do you expect of some one that does all that is listed above, in addition to trying to open a casino in vegas.. He’s Hov but he’s also human. Let me see half the cats doing everything hes doing and give a 100% show for a crowd that already has skeptic eyes and pessimistic ears, compounded with brainwashed vision of what rap is supposed to be….now beat that!

  17. 17 Dr Flav Nov 19th, 2006 at 7:19 pm

I wish people would stop trying to rationalize for this guy. Before any of the comeback tracks, people was saluting dude like he was without flaw, now all I read is excuses for subpar performances. He need to get off that bull and reunite the Rocafella team, like homie above me said he need Dame, too many yes men in his camp.

  18. 18 chuck Nov 28th, 2006 at 2:17 pm

Honestly, evrybody needs to remember that no matter what the beef is he is still #1, according to the numbers. also, to give a free concert when you are at super status such asJay-z, speaks for itself. to elaborate on micheals comment, i think that there have been alot of rappers before jay-z putting the word out about financial/hip-hop rape like; Public Enemy, N.W.A and
queen Latifa, just to name a few..in addition too, i also believe that if u are going to perform for your fans, then why not give the best that you got each and everytime after all, WE ARE THE ONE’S WHO GOT HIM TO WHERE HE IS AND EVERYOTHER ARTIST OUT HERE LIKE HIM….
