Okay man enough is enough! There’s just been to much idiotic comments coming from all sorts of angles on the topic of Nasir’s new album title “Hip-Hop Is Dead”. Seems as though he was better off just calling it “Nigga”. Everyone is twisting and turning the concept, even catching feelings. People it’s not that serious…or is it?

I mean what has finally set me off is the latest of WTF! sayings coming from Dem Franchise Boy’s Parlae. People beware this statement will hurt your brains and may even cause you to become a little dumber. So Parlae says in the new issue of OZONE Magazine “Hip Hop is a tool we use to avoid violence, gun play and everything else that comes with the streets, it’s Music, we’re expressin ourselves, we havin’ fun, nobody is trying to hear about ancient scriptures and sh*t, n*ggas is trying to get with b*tches, go read a book if you’re tryna get educated.. Its always the over the hill rappers tryna get back in the game and diss the hottest thing out, which right now is the South. It’s a movement. this ain’t 96, nobody is checkin for Nas anymore. Just because we don’t live to a certain type of hip hop code he does, we ain’t hip hop?”. Are you serious bro? This is definitely a time where I’m feeling Ludacris to the fullest “I Feel Like Slappin’ A Nigga Today!!!”. The audacity, you do realize Nas has the most anticipated album this year right? You do realize that you could very well be a 1 hit wonder right?
Even he’s D4L counterpart Mr. Flexible Fabo blasted God’Son when asked about the title. I understand to a degree Fab’s anger because his group has been singled out in a lot of conversations attacking the South’s Hip-Hop culture. I feel like if they asked him bout any other rapper dissing them (the Ghostface’s, Raekwon’s, etc) he would of probably gone of on them. But i guess Nas is the best target in most peoples eyes because of the whole “Hip-Hop Is Dead” thing. Which is kind of true Hip-Hop as we used to know it is dead.
What I’m seeing though is people mistaking what Nas is saying with what the haters ARE saying. Dudes have been hating since The South came on top. The whole Hip-Hop Is Dead campaign came along when The South started to shine. Yet what Nas was talking bout is the lack of Love, Creativeness, Political Awareness in Hip-Hop, not that NY isn’t on top and that’s not fair. Even Kay Slay is taking things to far, trying to instigate and Coast War because Ludacris shirt at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. Which by the way read “Hip-Hip Isn’t Dead, It Lives In The South”. Everyone’s been misquote the hell out of that because their to sensitive.

No Luda wasn’t saying Hip-Hop is from The South, belongs to The South, etc. What I gather from the type of person Cris is, is that he’s saying while the East coast seems dead (obviously Nas feels you guys are) their is still Hip-Hop alive down here. Sure your going to hear people growning saying “There’s no Hip-Hop in The South!“ (Go ask Busta Rhymes about Chamillinaire, Go ask Nas about Ludacris, go ask Jay-Z about UGK, go ask Beanie Sigel about Scarface, etc, etc). It’s obviously not a diss to Nas’s album title, but an direct responds to the East coast cats that started screaming it soon as The South started getting light.
Look people open your eyes and minds! Hip-Hop is everywhere from the Boogie Down Bronx, to the traps of ATL, to the streets of London. No one owns it! Lets stop being ignorant and dividing each other with something that was created to unite us! Nas isn’t dissing The South, he’s dissing all of us who let OUR culture down. Hip-Hop is dead cause we let it get that way, and unless we want what happen to Rock-N-Roll to happen to us we better step up. And use our heads and stop being ignorant haters of one another. To quote the Game we’re all “One Blood”, a House divided can not stand!

About time we finally get someone to explain this the way it should be. Everyone is so damn ignorant these days. Shut up and listen to the good music out now.
I mean honestly, who gives a fuck what one of them muhfuckas has to say? In 10 years, who the fuck is going to remember or care about DFB or any of these no talent fucks? Hip Hop is dead and no the south didn’t kill it. WE ALL did. Some of the southern “artist” are making it harder for it come back to life though. DFB,D4L,Joc,Khia just to name a few.
good blog
Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Righttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt SKIPPY. You just hit the nail on the head. I really appreciate that breaking down of the whole Hip HOp is Dead scenario. Real mature of you. (Okay don’t take this as if i’m Breading you okay). It’s only the guilty ones who will come out and start catching feelings towards sensible people who are trynna voice out the truth.
man, im tired of yall muthafuckas hatin on the south. he was tryin to single otu the south. state names nigga! if nas i so hard ( i mean he is a good rapper) but im from dat ATL. I bet he or nobody from the east coast or new york, will come down south and say the south aint real. please they wont make it back to NY. But fuck dat lets talk about these number one hits from the ATL. How many besides Jay-Z ( the wannabe NY savior) and Busta Sell records out the north and b-real with urself…lemme think…….None muthafuckas! Get money and stop talkin! Sell some records(consecutively) for 3-4 years straight with number ones like the south did, then come holla at us!Fat Joe, Jim Jones, and Puff Daddy know where da money at!
Preach that shit. DFB arent even Hip-Hop. Since when does Hip-Hop repeat the same thing 40 times in one song with a lame ass beats from some b-sexual ass niggas. They dont even have the right to say they are Hip-Hop or part of the culture. You have great artists from Down South like Face, Ball and G (Eightball and MJG), UGK, Luda, Little Brother and many more. Nobody hating on the south but they are hating on that corny ass DFB and D4L bullshit and that is not Hip-Hop. No matter how much they want to be. They are Pop artists because they are popular right now and tommorrow they will be gone. Hip-Hop is Hip-Hop no matter where its at or where its from. Hip-Hop is dead in a sense because we are letting the industry run it when we should have total control over what we do. This is the music of our people have for Pralay or whatever his gay ass name is to say go read a book….We speak throught this music….We educate through this music. Not everyone is a lame and the not everyone only cares about bitches. We are grown men (some of us) and there is more to life than pussy. We dont have to beg for it while you lames do. Get this money but lets do this shit with some respect.
I’m from the south. Believe me, when I was younger and Nas was (and is) looked at as a hip hop god. My barber in the shop told me about him in the ATL. See, all this party sh*t that people think Nas is dissin isn’t the case. The south has some lyrical shit but on a different level. If you go to 5 points in ATL, you can catch some talented cats free stylin and not about crack, guns, and ho’s. That just happens to be where the commercial part of the movement is. Even look at Kanye, his first album was on something really different, but even he needed to put out a club single (Gold Digger) to get people interested. Is hip hop dead? Hip Hop underground, Hip Pop is right now because record companies and the people just want to hear party music. You might hear b*tch, ho, nig*a whatever in a song but it’s still pop music. Is that a bad thing? Maybe not. Top 40 and platinum records are pop music just like Christina, Madonna, whoever but this is for a new generation. It’s like there are bands like Rage Against the Machine who can’t get shit played on the radio because radio is for pop music. Hip Hop started as party music; it only became gangsta since Ice-T and NWA brought in “reality” rap. It’s now party music for a section of society that needs to find some way to entertain themselves because they aren’t accepted by the mainstream. At least artist like Game (on the first album cause I haven’t heard the next one) threw in some political sh*t. Don’t get me wrong, I like rap that also educates and makes a statement (NAS, Mos Def,Common) but when I go out to the club, I want to dance. I have the rest of the week for my real problems. To sum it up, hip hop isn’t dead, it’s just that (like pop and rock) has now found a formula and you’ll be hearing it for a long time.
hip hop is not dead.it is still strong on the underground.you go to the rest of the world and the culture is strong .in the us is where the problem lies .the culture was takin over by corporate america, because they saw that they could make money.so they basically only play ignorant songs on the radio.what happened to the intelligence that once was so strong in hip hop.there is a place in hip hop for everyone.but we need a balance.play something for everyone on the radio.so it is not the souths fault for whats going on now.put the blame on corporate america.so we need to make an effort to get every form of hip hop heard.
These fly by nigth catz need to fall back!Nas didnt call them out.So why that kid say “This is definitely a time where I’m feeling Ludacris to the fullest “I Feel Like Slappin’ A Nigga Today!!!”. Is he out his mind…my bad,i know he is! Some time catz say the dummest stuff his mouth with one of dem white tee’s!!He really must think NAS is sweet something!Parlay trying to get something started he or DFB cant handle!! Kay slay & other DJ’s need to stop trying to instigate a Coast War black culture dont need that we need love to bring us up & out the world is bigger than the little box we live in. I hope NAS show some ONE BLOOD LOVE on his most anticipated album in his life!!Show people HIP-HOP still live in him!!
what nas concept means about hip hop is dead, the way United states of america is being run today and how black people is beaing treated, the wars that our government have us in and how many lives that are being lost, poverty, hunger, voilence..etc. and the thing that should happen is that hip hop need to take a bigger stand and make a difference…since bush is not doing so. so people please try to understand what nas is really sayin..it has nothing to do with east and south..that’s the downfall of the black man..since one stand up and say something positive a bunch of nigga jump on his dick tryin to kill it.fuck that and live as one'’united we stand'’ ‘’divided we fall'’
WE ARE ALL HIP HOP, BUT I KIND OF UNDERSTAND D4L & DFB GETTING FRUSTRATED. IF YOU CONSTANTLY GET CALLED OUT FOR BS, HOW WOULD YOU FEEL? TO SAY THEY ARE NOT PART OF HIP HOP IS LAME. IS NICE & SMOOTH HIP HOP? THEY HAD (be honest)WACK LYRICS & GOOD BEATS. NOBODY SAID JACK TO THEM. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? CAN’T SAY JUST CALL IT POP RAP. BEST BELIEVE THAT NAS WILL BE ON MTV & 106.
Real talk! I think that shit that Luda did with the t-shirt was some hoe shit.(especially since that’s Nas’ album title) Nas NEVER mentioned the South when he said Hip Hop is dead. Duke is definitely talking about Hip Hop being taken over by corporate and how the “RADIO” is killing Hip Hop. There was a time when I could turn on the radio and in the span of One hour hear, Ice Cube, KRS, Rakim, Luke, Tribe, De La, Ice T, Biz Markie, DJ Quick and PE. Now there is no balance. Fuck that, Hip Hop IS dead! For once I would like to turn on the radio and hear Haziq, Joel Ortiz, Jojo Pelligrino and 4ize and it not be a part of some “special mix.” Also, the other thing that’s fucked up is that NY carries the burden for the so called “beef.” Nobody makes mention when Game takes his shots at the South, nobody makes mention when Snoop takes his shots at the South. Why is that?
I think alota cats from the south are talking more out of their ass about the situation then dudes in NY. Im from brooklyn and we not hatin the south cats love TI and luda and heads that take make good music. Cats from texas is taking it outa context, first of all I remember when they didnt even wanna be called the south they were the 3rd coast. They didnt even wanna be affiliated with ATL. Second of all Hiphop is good music not that other bull you compare to vanilla ice and hammer. So d4l got a right to be mad cause we are talking about their music because it is trash. I think franchise makes better music than them.
I guess some folk forgot about the song Virgo that Nas had on his album with Luda on it. Luda just stated an opinion just like Nas is stating his. Parlae made some good points, but that Nas comment was light weight crackish though. I blame these reporters for coming at those guys like Nas is aiming the title at them, reporters always be on that controversy shit to sell a story, thats the same shit that got Big and Pac killed.
Think about it, if Nas had something to say, dont you think he would be more direct about it? He never had a problem dishing ether before.
hye man whats up
i think d4l should suck some dics
but for real its just music not fgood to get too emotional over it i mean its music
but in the end hip hop is dead and it cannot be brought up again
damn yo in out
yall dumb ass muther fuckers id dumb onlt the first person know wat he was talkin about
man finally…like kay slay said..rap is entertainment and hip hop is what u live…..dfb saying u dont need to read a book? goes to show how much he know.i hear a bunch of mainstream shit when i turn on the radio.. same senario, same music videos. ho’s this, drugs that. cappin this. it dont make sense..and i asked a person …do u know what there saying inthe song? and they said a no..wtf? and we let the media show us how react to the music…how to dress and feel..just because jordans are in, dont mean go to the mall cause ur favorite artist is talking bout them.. u know? go to ur dads or uncles closet..he probably still got his…i like all types of music literally, i dont hate. music dont make sense no more..wether it be rap, rock, punk, and stuff..lame lyrics and candyass hooks..”i dont bump mainstream ,i knock underground, all that shit on the radio is sugar coated and watered down”-e40. we need to take music back to the people ..the way it was in the begining..like putting ur hands in the air…
Fvck that. Muzic is Muzic. They’re all kinds! Just do you and don’t worry bout shit else!
i feel like hip-hop is dead but about to be resurrected i mean hip hop has been stolen from us and given back in watered down pop version but hip-hop is coming bacc in the form of many south mc’s like Luda, weezy, and as well as the veterans like Hov,and Nas but what i wanna see is westcoast rap come bacc in the form of Game or since im from the Bay The HYPHY shit
I am going back to what E from Bk stated, it is funny to me how people from the south feel like they can come at nyc like that, but when somebody from the west coast step all in that ass they back down!! This has something to do with people from the north coming down south bragging on there cities trying to make people from the south feel cheap, but from my experience, anybody from nyc comes down to the south and he can blend in, he could have a crew of brothers from some of everywhere, but i know that people from other states in the north come to the south and stay clique tight and call the south slow all of the time, like my ex from chicago!! but everyone wants to focus on nyc like we are the trouble makers, thats why when someone down here ask me where am i from and what is new york like i dont even want to talk to them about it, because the moment you start to tell them they start getting to the point like we are talking to much!! I’m like dont ask me if you dont want to hear, evidently we like the south to flock in large numbers moving down here. I mean it has gotten so deep and peep the picture, me and my boys chilling in the room and brothas will be talking about who is hot and what city is poppin and then when they ASK ME, get it ASK ME, whats up with new york, or what is new york like, when i start to tell them, all of the sudden here they go peep this “man fuck new york, yall niggas is weak, then when it gets heated and i start firing back i’m hatin, fuck that i aint letting know one come at me with that bullshit, point blank!! So yeah the south just wants to come at new york to get a nut off, and they feel like that because when 2 Pac snapped on the east we did not retaliate and fight back so that made the east look soft now everybody on the block feel like they can talk shit to us!! But i live in alabama right now so I know how a lot of catz down here feel because they have been put down for so long, but everyone in nyc dont come down to the south with a big mouth, we open up about hip hop because that is something we know, and most times we talk about people we dont like at home or down in the south or in the west. New York streets made us this way, and one thing i give credit to in the south is that hip hop did start off like that with a nice beat and lyrics that make you dance and party so that is what they are doing, i am just preaching on the hate!!
Hip Hop is STILL ALIVE in different contexts, senses, place, cities and Underground.
PLEASE leave a comment for me on Myspace. I have witten many reports on “The Culture” and “The Reality” that is Hip Hop. Maybe you can get a copy of one of these papers. Then tell me what You think!
Southern rapper are just idiots trying to come up, these idiots can’t rhyme, shit…they can hardly talk.Dumbass ebonic speaking,non-grooming,fools, making the same damn songs over and over again. You ever hear these idiots attempt to talk, you know none of them made it pass 4th grade. They can’t even come up with creative names, what the fuck is an “Unk”,that not a name, that a sound i make when I’m taking a shit. And to that southern buffoon “Yo mama(stonecold), the south may have number one hits, but never number one albums.50 Cent albums, “get rich or die tryin” sold $10 million copies and the massarce sold $9.5 million, both number one in there respective years, no southern rapppers album has reach either of those totals.Jay-z has sold more than $20 million records, more than any southern rappers, plus he is worth $340 million, when no southern rapper other than Master P(an his career is over, by the way)is over $60 million.Jay-z also has the biggest first week sells by any rapper of the year, 608,000 copies, so the money must be somewhere other than the south. And why those the south alway copy other coast style, in the early 90s they were riding the west coast cocks, now i see these dummy in bentleys and hummers, wearing jordan and fitted hats, jerseys(guess no one told these shitheads jersey are finish), and putting spinners on there cars(guess know one told these shitheads spinner are over).First off, they are always the last to know when a particular style is done, and we all know they were wearing polo jeans and reeboks, and driving 1989 hondas just a few years ago.It funny how the south is suppose two be running Hip Hop now, but must of them are rarely making it to Gold, and non are selling more than the top echelon of east coast rappers.
Damn man this blog says it all and it is indeed tru. I Mean To me personally Hip Hop Is still alive through the music of these underground cats and sum well known lyricists like kweli and common. But what is dead is the message that hip hop once held. Like love, politics, and whats going on in the world. Now its lean with it rock with it shoulder lean and a bunch of other dance crazes da are taking away the meaning of hip hop. You see thats what bothers me and no im not dissing da south neither for yall u who think that. Im juss simply stating there is no meaning left in hip hop. Like these so called rappers who call them self entertainers, to me there not there poets and if they wanted to be entertainers might as well just put on a blue wig,a red nose, and call themselves bozo the clown.
Hey wassup y’all….Im from Brazil and I have som fam in Europe too , Im livin in NY now and I can talk internationally…Southern rap SUUCKKSS….These dudes are talkin…lemme see…I dont even know what they talkin about…You have a bunch of trap boys, gangstas, drug dealers, murderes down there…They be talkin crime but they all scare of a jail… its all crap… Why should I listen to that ? why should I listen how many girls they hit, how many cars they have, money, jewerly and all that bullshit ? 90% people of this world is not livin that life so common wake up… When I listen to people like NAS , the best lyrics ever, Im proud to say Im hip hop head, people like Hov, Common, Talib, Wu tang, Mos Def… I learn somethin from that…I educate myself…I take my self to another level…Im too smart for that southern superficial shit…Thats for lil kids… Lil kids get online and they vote for that crap and thats why its on 106 and park…FUCK SOUTH…NEW YORK STATE OF MIND FOREVER…
I’m from Atlanta…born and raised here; regardless of that fact its unfortunate that people from down here appear to be so thin skinned about something not even aimed at them. Even more unfortunate is that you have cats like D4L, DFB (insert your wack rapper here) that lead people from elsewhere to believe that life here is EXACTLY like they paint it. Let them tell it, EVERYBODY is trappin’, EVERYBODY got white tees looking like they got on their little sister’s nightgown, and that ain’t the case. I wouldn’t even mind if it were one or two of these cats rappin’ this nonsense but it’s everybody. Save Ludacris and, on a good day, Jeezy no one is saying anything but the same thing and that’s sad.
It was said earlier that this is the case in every genre of music, the people with the most to say get very little spins on mainstream radio while the people with the most BS have all the airtime in the world. Where hip hop is different is that it was the total opposite at its height. I’d like to think that “It Takes a Nation Of Millions…” would get spinds if it were to drop for the first time tomorrow but that’s not likely…It wouldn’t be PE’s fault for putting out a bad album; moreso it speaks to the gradual dumbing down of the fanbase.

Also, Release Therapy, was pretty much ass in the sense that the only good songs the album had was Grew Up A Screw Up and Ultimate Satisfaction [which was basically ruined by Field Mob].
I guess the one with Mary J. Blige, was ok. Slap A Nigga was pretty slick too.
Still: Hip Hop Is Dead > Release Therapy.
Seriously is anyone listening to the words….
