Hosted by HOT 97’s Heavy Hitter DJ Enuff with DJ Camillo and DJ Self on the turntables, the event marks the first time ever producers and pioneers of the urban DVD genre will be honored with their own award show. Categories include: Best DVD Documentary, The Pusher Award (most consistently sold urban DVD), Hottest Street DVD, Most Consistent Artist On A DVD, Hottest biker DVD and Top DVD Street Magazine to name a few.
The nominees were selected by the top DVD distributors, major retailers, DVD magazine reviewers (Big Apple, Super D Distributors, Traffic, Top Line, Tape Man, Source Magazine, XXL Magazine, Mix Unit etc) based upon retail sales, store requests, re-orders, and critic picks in the following categories: The Best DVD Documentary, The Pusher Award (Most Consistent in Sales), Hottest Street DVD, Top Street Magazine, Best Music Video Blend, Finest Booty DVD, Most Consistent Artist On A DVD, and Hottest DVD Graphics to name a few.
It’s appropriate Littles, an artist and pioneer of urban street DVDs and well-known NY party promoter, Mook Diamond, team up considering that both have released DVDs before themselves. Littles released one of the earlier Urban DVD in 1998 called, The Feeding, which featured classic performances dating back to 1989 from Nas, Mobb Deep, and a few other artists coming up in Queensbridge. “The Feeding was the first DVD I ever produced and we sold it hand to hand. It was the first time anyone had ever produced a music DVD and Vibe and XXL wrote that I was the first to do it. That’s one of the reasons why I’m so passionate about creating an awards event just for us.” explains Littles. Since then his company, The Best Of The Block Inc. has produced Mobb Deep’s DVD, Infamous Allegiance: Part I and II and EPK DVDs for Chamillionaire, Jae Millz, and other artists signed to Jive Records’ roster.
