Although, this conference was to discuss the future of Africa, there were no Africans present? So, in all actuality, when we buy diamonds, we are supporting the exploitation of Africa’s resources and the enslavement of her children (wherever they maybe on God’s green earth) for the benefit of Europeans and their children (wherever they may be on earth!).
The few black students, and scholars who have received Rhodes scholarships and grants to attend universities and do research have and will, because of such gifts, argue in defense of Rhodes. Europeans/European-Americans will not allow blacks/Africans to utilize the resources of their own continent to end poverty, hunger, ignorance, violence, war, HIV/AIDS, etc. History has taught us that any attempt to do so will be taken as an “act of war” and even “terrorism” against Europe and will therefore be met with a European-issue bullet in your head! I’m just recently became aware of the torture, raping and fighting that has been going on in Africa for power by which diamonds provide. I watched the movie Blood Diamonds for the first time and recently watched the documentary Sand and Sorrow which really got me thinking. So many Americans are not aware of the issues to the lack of news coverage by the media in the United States. I am ashamed of myself for even wearing diamonds and will never purchase them again! I will continue to educate myself and others in regards to terrible things that are happening in Africa. Hopefully by spreading the word and writing to our politicians this will bring hope and help Africa to prosper!
I recently watched the movie blood diamonds and wanted to know more, I hate to say it but i was dumb to what was going on in africa I have a daughter and i want to cry thinking of the pain the mothers and fathers must go thru over there,I wish there was a way to open up my own home just so they would be safe. I cringe to think what happens to their people and the children,I mean can you really imagine all americans will always be sympathetic of course but you know we cant really do anything but that because out of sight out of mind we dont face those things on a daily basis i mean we have are trials but nothing to the extent africa does.
