Shouts to the people at Complex Magazine for their December/January issue. I mean, they do put out a good magazine monthly, but this issue is on steroids cause of the loose lips of Weezy F. Baby and Nas.
In the new issue, Nasir (As Baaalin would call him), reveals that he was offered a Presidential slot at Atlantic Records way before Def Jam even showed interest in signing him. The position would’ve put him directly in charge of guys like Jim Jones, who I believe is an A&R or A&R Director at the label. Imagine the guy who said he would smack Nas’s kufi off his head, having to answer to him. Not a good look. Nas’s revelation also came with a couple of choice words for the Harlem kid.
“I’m still his boss [laughs]. I am above him. Who’s not above Jim Jones? I don’t know any of his records and I’m not even being funny. Like I know he’s got a record called ‘Ballin.’ I hope it sells some records, but I swear to you I’ve never heard it.” Ouch!
The reasoning for Nas’ not taking the position falls right into the lap of what’s happening to his new buddy, Hov at the moment.
“Artists are fucking crazy and they’d want to blame me for shit. I can’t deal with that right now.”
Well, we all know Jay’s getting blamed for alot of flops whether right or wrong. From LL, whose been his biggest detractor, to other acts like Method Man and The Roots, Jay’s had his share of critics.
“LL is too old of an O.G. to get mad at Jay,” said Nas. Wouldn’t that be the exact reason why LL could say what he wants? He pretty much put the label on his back in the 80’s and the early 90’s, despite his rapid slippage throughout the past decade.
“People getting mad at Jay is corny,” said Nas. “LL’s been at Def Jam since we were kids dreaming about being on Def Jam. We gotta get off this bullshit because I never remember those artists talking about any white executives. That’s some slavery shit. If my record comes out and goes wood, I can’t blame Jay because it’s my doing.” True that, and I’ll get into why his album will probably flop too after hearing HHID (What’s up with the beat selection?).
“If you look at these niggas that love hip-hop, they’re broke or they’re frustrated artists. I’m trying to learn from B.B. King. I’m going to be rapping when I’m 80.”
80? Smarten up Nas. I know the Nas stans are going to come out in flurries, but after hearing HHID, this might be the best time to do an Unk and “Walk it Out.” But, on the flip side, half of HHID is better than 99% of what comes out in this industry. I just miss the Illmatic/IWW Nas. Personally, I feel dude hasn’t brought it since except for spots on Stillmatic and God’s Son, but it’s better than hearing Joc and Jibbs all day.

yo i dont kno but nas and jay z are the best thing to happen to rap music rite now so if u are a hater that u say u are not then ur one of those corny pussy ass niggaz who like dat whole dipset shit ur fuckin garbage nas and jhay z best thing dats has hapopend to hihop after pac and big. shit
I don’t like the DIPS homey. Like I said, I was a huge Nas fan till after IWW. Since, he’s only been good in spots to me. Jay is a legend just like him, but they have their faults homey.
I LIKE THE FACT THAT NAS CAME OUT WITH HIS ALBUM TITLE. IT IS RAISING A LOT OF DISCUSSION AND IT HAS SHOWN ME THAT HIP HOP IS ALIVE. DUDES LIKE JEEZY ARE RIDING FOR IT AS THEY KNOW IT, NOT AS WE KNEW IT (HEADZ OVER 25). HIP HOP AINT DEAD. ITS JUST DIFFERENT. AS FAR AS JAY GOES, YALL KILL ME. KINGDOM COME IS DOPE. ITS NOT HIS BEST WORK BUT IT TOPS MOST ALBUMS THAT CAME OUT THIS YEAR. AND, IT’S THE TOP SELLING DEBUT FOR 06. “WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT”…NO PUN INTENDED. I LISTEN TO IT A LOT AND I SEE WHY YALL ARE HATING THO. YALL WANT A MULTI MILLIONAIRE TO RAP ABOUT SELLIN DOPE EVEN THOUGH HE’S PASS THAT. WOMP WOMP…DIG A HOLE…IT’S BIRD HUNTING SEASON BIOTCH!
Damn….how many artists over the years have had the nuts to say my album was wack? It’s always…THE RECORD LABEL, messed me up! C’mon, this can’t be every case homey! I know from doing business when a blackman is in charge brothers do not like being under him unless he is old money like Russel Simmons or L.A. Reid. But a new Rich guy like Jay under 40… AW HELL NAW LOL!!!!!!! Its built in us, to hate us. If Jay was an old jewish cat …NO Problem, what can eyez do fuh ya suh!!!!LOL
I disagree with the side comments. This album is not wack. In fact this is the first time in a minute that I’ve felt every song that has leaked from this album including the first single. So the album is not going to flop! Second of all I’m so sick of this age thing. Hip hop is not just for 20 somethings and younger especially when the young emcees are coming up with the stuff that we’re hearing right now. Go ahead and rhyme til 80, Nas. And he’s still be one of the top emcees at 80. One time KRS said he’d be “grippin the microphone til i’m mutha******* 60. Who’s to say he can’t. That’s LOVE. That’s LOVE FOR HIP HOP– not money and success. And no age discrimmination in hip hop is going to stop that.
Yo King….you really seem like you hating on Nas alotta cats say his album is a 9/10. I’m copping and I know at least 15 friends that having me cop theirs at the same time. Plus it’s Nas…He’ll never flop unless you cal 1x Plat a flop
The album title itself is a brilliant marketing tool for Nas. If it was a wack cd(it’s not)people would still rush out & cop one just so they can say they support real hip hop. It’s not about the music anymore. Folks buy what the next man says is good. That’s why you have a lot of garbage out now & NOBODY SUPPORTS INDI MUSIC. If this cd sells,(it will)will this be the new trend? Will we have pseudo intellectuals dictating what is proper for an artform or culture?? Will somebody release an album titled FUN MUSIC IS DEAD?
No diss, just a question.
it don’t really matter if nas flops, he don’t give a fuck anyway. thats wats up though, all these muthafuckas rapping for the paper, they dont give a fuck what they say. nas is really one of the onl;y true lyricsists that are still doing it. i do think it would be dope if nas did some illmatic shit again, but we as fans gotta respect that he’s grown. it’s not 1994 anymore, nas has matured but he still kept the importantace of lyrics. if people don’t like the state of hip-hop, then we need to support the niggas that be keeping it real. don’t just cop whatever is getting play on MTV, go out and research yo shit, na mean. if nas is rapping when he’s 80, i’ll be in the frount row bitches.
whoever wrote this article talking bout nas gonna flop needs to SHUT UP RIGHT NOW has Nas ever flopped the whole time he’s been rappin? has he ever gone less than platinum? last time i checked “NO” his beats have always been considered his down fall but yet and still he hasn’t flopped so dude SHUT UP ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW BOUT THEM APPLES???!!!!!
yo whoever wrote this i respect to the utmost degree. Everybody talking about Nas new album like its the second coming of Christ or some shit and from what i heard so far its trash. Lyrical no doubt no one is fucking with the Nas from stillmatic/God son fame but this bullshit he finna drop is trash to me. I hope he is doing it for the love of Hip Hop cause his shit aint selling. They gonna do him like Lupe and bootleg the shit outta his cd
