I just finished reading all of the responses here and I must say that hip hop can't be dead with all of this passionate disagreement going on. I think of hip hop now as a early twenty something dude. It trying to figure out what it wants to be. With all of the different directions you can go in life, you just start to live in the moment and it is all about the materialistic aspects of your life. I think this is where hip hop is at. It will grow up eventually or just go the route of jazz, blues, r&b, and all the other forms of black music that disappeared from the limelight.

.........the south ant been holdn down nothing but the south, and you can only speak for the south if you are from there. and every body keep using pac name to validate their arguement, as if that nigga is fuckn flawless.... I think it would be very theraputic to your man-hood to say fuck 2 pac! since his death a lot of wisdom, lyrical skillz, even supernatural powers have been attributed to his persona that did not exist while he was alive...... we all seen this before, I guess that's why the messiah has to die, subconsciously we push him to death so we can make him what we need him to be, so he can then validate our convictions. we forget that it was because of this nigga people got killed due to his own insercurities, and lack of man-hood.... momma boys typically act tough inorder to confirm their manhood. collectively speaking, its typical for other momma boys to follow suit......

......if rappers like nas should retire, then the new ones should cut their own throats...

..........rappers like nas, mos def, jay-z, kanye west, talib....... these are some of hip hop's front line defense... notice they are all in their late 20's to 30's.... todays new artists have zero discipline or structure, and they don't have a overstanding of our overall situation. people of color are engaged in a psychological warfare, and the last time we made a move on the chess board was when martin luther king jr. allowed children to march while white policemen opened up waterholes and released trained police dogs on them in front of international cameras, thereby showing the world that they were the animals, this new generation has allowed them to turn the tables not only with their crime rate, but with their music as well. We haven't made a chess move in our defense since then (our master chess players are dying, but with no replacements), but in terms of hip hop music..... jay's album is a sign of the times, because it is a 'proper' response to niggas (in their 20's & 30's) walkn round with their paints hangn off their fuckn asses etc., its time to grow the fuck up...... I mean, is life immitating art, or is art immitating life, and do young stupid motherfuckas know the fuckn difference anymore..... nas's album is another chess move, right next to nwa's earlier moves, and public enemy's...... its a move that shows awareness in a time when most are mindlessly talking bullshit.
