Cormega & Nas Reunite Onstage

cormega and nas

Some recent news that seemed to have been overshadowed by other recent events…

If fans were surprised about Nature joining Cormega onstage at BB King’s on December 20th, they may have gone into complete shock two days later in New York after witnessing a historic moment - the reunion of Cormega and Nas. For fans of the two emcees, it was a moment they’d anticipated but never thought could happen. When Nas recited ‘what’s up with Cormega, did you see him, are y’all together,’ a verse in “One Love,” from his debut album, Illmatic (1994), the sold-out crowd at The Nokia Theater erupted into frenzy as Cormega casually walked on-stage. DJ LES switched the track to “Affirmative Action,” and the two lyricists performed together for the first time in years! While cameras and cell phones waved in the air to capture the moment, Foxy Brown, joined the two on stage just in time for her verse on the song.

While it’s not yet been determined what the future holds, the quick pound Nas and Cormega gave each other onstage signified the end of their longstanding feud which began when Cormega, one of the original members of super group, The Firm (Nas, Cormega, Foxy Brown, AZ), was replaced by Nature because he refused to sign a production deal offered by then manager, Steve Stout. The feud between Cormega and Nas escalated with a series of disses in songs and interviews. The feud not only caused a rift between the two whose friendship began in the 80’s, but also divided fans who took sides in internet forums backing one or the other.

In the meantime while the media speculates on what the reunion between Nas and Cormega means, when asked to comment on what’s happening with The Firm or any future collaboration between himself and Nas, Cormega answers simply, “I can’t comment.” In a statement through his publicist, Jackie O, Cormega had this to say, “Nas and I have had our differences but we go way back. We knew each other before hip-hop. This isn’t the first time I spoke with Nas, we’ve been talking, but the world didn’t know.”

Cormega is currently in the studio recording tracks for a new mixtape titled The Prelude, which will be released in early 2007 featuring production and appearances from Lil Fame, Emile, Heatmakers, Large Professor, Nature, Styles P, and others. He’s also putting the final touches on his next solo record, The Inevitable.

Unity is Unity.

Digg!

I just recently came back from Ny and i don’t know why this clown is saying New York Hip Hop is coing back. All i heard was music from the south predominatley. “Walk It Out” in the Inwood-Bronx;speechless. Hip Hop is dead my people unless we go back to education. I feel it is the only way to save this culutre from it’s rapist. Educate and make music that goes against the machine. If not lets just act ignorant and “Walk It Walk” or maybe we should Lean With & Rock Wit it. Heavens sake where did we go wrong? One love.

Really I heard more Young Buck than anything and that is not to say Young Buck is not hot cause the joint I heard is hot, but I laugh when I hear this no respect thing going on, saying we only listen to our music (east coast) and some people in the south, dont even know they got fans up in nyc! mad funny!! But lets all make this music and stop turning and betraying our city, I am going to stand behind NYC!! thats home for me baby!!!!

this is a good look for hip hop.it is time for real hip hop to stand up.i do not care where you are from.if you love real hip hop a change is coming.there is real cats in the game who are from new york, the south ,west coast, midwest all over who are going to shine in 2007.all this crap on the radio is slowly getting tuned out by real hip hop fans.but for new york this really good.hopefully we can get a new firm cd with nas, mega, foxy,az and nature.

I don’t necessarily want The Firm back. AZ’s iffy at best. And Foxy…no thanks. If AZ steps up his game and Foxy leaves, maybe I’d enjoy The Firm a bit more. By the way, Jay fell off a long time ago. Even his newfound maturity won’t save him. Hip-hop still has some life. Nas is still excellent as ever. My man, Pharoahe Monch is returning next year. Rakim’s dropping something new, and we’re due for some new KRS. Hip-hop isn’t entirely hopeless yet.

By the way, there are only a few good southern cats…

    Scarface
    OutKast
    Ludacris (sometimes)
    T.I. (sometimes)
    Chamillionaire

No disrespect to AZ or Foxy. AZ is talented as hell, but he can really suck at times. Foxy…well…she just doesn’t sound great alongside Nas, AZ, and Cormega. By the way, Young Buck sucks. G-Unit in general sucks. Banks is good when he’s at his absolute best and The Game is tight only with tight beats.

Well, hopefully 07 will give us:

    Detox (rumor has it)
    The Seventh Seal
    Some new KRS
    Pharoahe Monch
    Eminem

If Em returns to his true lyricism, he can truly save the game.

Why does anybody give a shit if Nas reunited with Cormega? The guy has NEVER made a hit record. NEVER!! Why do we even care about Cormega?

  11. 11 LiveNiggaRap Jan 7th, 2007 at 3:00 pm

^^^^^^ U wouldn’t understand, you only care about “hits”. Mega dropped a “hip hop classic”. There’s a huge difference, remember Illmatic. That shit took like ten years to go plat anyway, so there goes your point. Anyway, go cop The Realness.

  12. 12 Bishop Jan 7th, 2007 at 5:40 pm

Mega has alway’s been nice.Nobody really took the time to peep him out.NY is coming back.Nas, Mega ,AZ Jigga etc. What’s fuckin with dat?

  13. 13 Chaostamer Jan 8th, 2007 at 8:39 pm

Yes, Mega is excellent, but Bishop, I’m not sure if AZ or Jigga can save NY. Nas and Mega can help; Rakim can help; Pharoahe Monch can help, but not Jigga. Not after the disappointment of “Kingdom Come”.

A Mega/Nas collabo over a Large Pro drop would be ill. ‘The Inevitable’ could be the next classic for Mega after ‘The Realness’ and ‘The True Meaning’. 1
