Lupe the Dealer???

Lupe Fiasco

It’s crazy I was telling my dude the other day I should write about how I thought Lupe was probably moving weight, but some other things occured to me especially after I read 1) the XXL Bol Blog and 2) heard an interesting quote on “Us Placers” that has the boy really convinced Lupe may have been getting his kick, push on for real…

First quote (shout out to Bol at XXL) “I push rocks, dawg.” - Lupe Fiasco, on his 2003 single “Pop Pop”

By now though, most have heard that Charles “Chilly” Patton, Lupe’s business partner will spend 44 years in the bing but if you haven’t seen the story, here it is at Nobodysmiling.com. Long story short Chilly got caught with enough heroine to keep Bobby, Whitney, Gil Scott, Miles Davis, Tyrone Biggums and Pookie from New Jack City getting busy for about 4 weeks (6 kilos which equals over a mil in street value).

The aspect I wanted to focus on was the taped convo they have of Lupe & Chilly discussing red and yellow tops. Lupe stated they were referring to his tracks but I’ve never known musical tracks to be named yellow nor red tops on any block, borough or city. Now I don’t know much about the drug game. Frankly, I don’t know exactly what a yellow top is, but a shot in the dark tells me a vial of heroine. But what I do know is THAT A YELLOW TOP AIN’T NO FUCKING MUSIC TRACK.

Now, it’s hard to imagine a dude like Lupe pushin but then again 1) he’s from the Chi 2) what independent (sad but true) black record label doesn’t have drug start up capital (word to roc a fella, and murder inc) and 3) probably the most convincing is the quote from “Us Placers.” Now in the song, he’s listing the lifestyle of the rich and famous (possibly himself, possiby not) but says “and someone to take the rap so I stay stainless.” I can’t make this shit up. Now given the circumstances that shit makes alot of sense, couple that along with his eccentric clothing taste–which is a bit difficult to learn about when you’re broke–and it don’t take Matlock to solve this case.

Nevertheless, I hope it’s not as it seems and in my eyes he’s not guilty until proven so like the boy Kells. Hopefully, the Cool makes it out before (God forbid) Lupe ends up in Oz and I pray that it doesn’t end up like that. God knows hip hop is already in a shitty enough state.

Digg!

I think Lupe snitched. That’s how he walked. That yellow and red stuff is way too incriminating for the feds not to put a charge on your head just to see if you can beat it.

Man, I always thought the same thing. A lot of his older stuff has a lot of drug references. Hes like my favorite rapper out right now, but I think he does do it. I hope he doesn’t but he knows a lot about it and Red/Yellow tops.. wtf is that in music?

he’s muslim so i doubt he was selling. well, if he was a good muslim he wouldn’t be selling, or rather even if he was a smart muslim, which i think he is. and he doesn’t always rap about his lifestyle in his rhymes, he’s usually telling stories, so any smart little quotes have to be taken in context. and there are other ways of getting money for your label (especially if Jay-Z co signed you and you toured before your album even came out). i’m not saying that chilly wasn’t using drug money to fund 1st and 15th either, but if he was i doubt Lupe would have be involved in any drug business.

Music can be like drugs, good drugs that is. They could just be using yellow and red tops as a creative reference to their music just like Kanye West did on the “Crack Music”.

can’t be sure, but lupe would be the last guy i’d expect to be dealing. its hard to say he didn’t know about it though, chilly was his mentor and business partner, if he has a mil worth of heroine, chances are lupe knew something. the whole, red yellow top stuff could be codewords for tracks, prob paranoid about material leaking out after food and liquor.

lupe walked, chilly got a 44 year sentence, dunno about his wife though

i think chilly told lu that he would take the blame and for lu to cut a deal to incriminate him so at least lu would get off and could continue to put out his music and make a positive difference. listen to the free chilly track from his mixtape

    I agree with Dre.
Music can be like a drug (For me it is)..I don’t know much about drugs but I do know enough. Things like that I use as slang as well. And him growing up in Chi-town…he would have been exposed to some of it so he would know about it. I really doubt hat he has anything to do with it…and I’m not just saying this because he’s my hero. Btw “FREE CHILLY” 44 years? Wow absurd.

When the Italian mafia hooks up Frank Sanitra, etc, no one complains. I hope Lupe isn’t in the drug game, but his lyrics are so potent and conscious, I don’t care.

Besides, for years I’ve said legalize all drugs, if people want to escape let ‘um.

Fighting the drug game is just putting BILLIONS $ into courts, police, weapons, international wars and causing many gang wars.

Legalize everything and focus on fixing problems in communities, then most people wouldn’t want drugs! Get a life and get off Lupe’s &#&c

Wow. this is so dumb. if u really dont think lupe isnt affiliated in the drug game then u dont pay attention to his lyrics. listen to his mixtapes. He sates FNF was funded through drug money and his boys would do the dirty work so he could keep his image clean. Pay attention to the lyrics. theres always a double meaning.

dude open your ears, in “pop pop” he does not say I push rocks, he says “I’ll push box, dawg”

man im from the westside of Chicago,…and that’s where that boy Lupe from. That’s the roughest part of Chicago, why wouldn’t he know drugs?…trust me to all ya’ll talking that “that’s the last thing I’d expect Lupe to do”,..when the hell did you start knowing Lupe Fiasco? ya’ll sound so silly…but everybody know somebody that slang something….right?
