David Banner on Southern Hip-Hop Haters
All I got to say is co-sign Mr. Banner. You know I have to gave David Banner respect, not because of this but because he’s been REAL. Banner been on his shit lately putting not only the Hip-Hop on blast, but the Government and us people as well. He’s really accepted the adage “With great power comes responsibility”.
Some may call Dave “hypocritical” because he makes songs like “Play” or “Like A Pimp” and yet “tries” to be a social leader. But much like Banner said in his own defense on BET’s “Keeping The Faith” contradiction is a mark of a man/artist. That’s what you do like Pac said “You gotta hit it from all sides”. You can’t just be one way all the time. I like how Dave said that ‘conscious’ MC’s may very well be doing the biggest disservice because they create the idea that you have to be so “upright”. Like there is no room for you to be human.
I have to give props where props are due. Dave Banner has been out there on his grind in the face, no heart of controversy. He’s showing there is more SO MUCH MORE to us as Hip-Hoppers never mind people. I think it was Paul (from the Bible) that said that we have to speak to people in a language they can understand (of course I’m drastically paraphrasing). Which is why people were so heavily drawn to Pac, because he represented the good and bad in all of us.
Don’t get it twisted, I’m not calling Banner the new Tupac (stans) or Paul (religious nuts) but just a man who realize the truth in the Rhymefest lyric “We’re made for more, but Die for less”. I’m proud of David Banner for being that nigga that is just doing him and lending his voice. Rather it be to speak for Katrina Victims, chastising our so-called “leaders”, putting Hip-Hop on blast, or making chicks shake their tail feather and niggas pop their guns (pause). Dave Banner is doing the damn thing, it’d be dope to see him on Bill O’Reilly show…maybe?
