The Prodigal Son Returns

The boy is back. If you were wondering where I was, I been working on my site, StuntinonProse.com. Make sure y’all check that out; it has all my ish that I wrote while on hiatus from these particular parts of the net plus alot of other dope content some of yall would appreciate. If you weren’t wondering where I was…uhhh, how can I say this politely;suck on deeez and go play in traffic.

Now that, I got all of that out of the way, I’ll proceed with the regular scheduled blog. And what better to discuss then the return of Hov, the god emcee. So, apparently the Jigga man is coming with his own soundtrack for the soon to be released American Gangster. Denzel wanted Jay to do the official but the producer, Brian Grazer, elected to pass…What kind of putz passes on an opportunity to have one of the biggest stars in entertainment to do their soundtrack?

Nevertheless, anytime I can hear S dot kick some new bars, i’m mad excited like the rest of you Stanleys but what’s good with them deeming this a “concept album?” Based off of “Blue Magic,” the first single off of this album, it sounds like Jay’s relapsing back to the (drug) hustler motif he’s used throughout his career. Maybe I’m slow or something (no jokes please) but hasn’t Jay been doing this type of rap all his career??? After the shitfest that was Kingdom Come, and the response (read ethering) that Jay received from the critics should I even be surprised that the big homie is “taking it back to the streets?” So, in my eyes, American Gangster (the album) is nothing more than an opportunity for Jay to get back to doing what made him stanky rich which is rapping about pies and cakes as opposed to making ass tracks like “30 something,” “Anything” and that Hollywood track and well basically, anything on Kingdom Come that wasn’t “Minority Report” and the first two or three tracks. I have been at the forefront of critics screaming that Hov needs to grow out of the whole trap rap mentality but now that I’ve seen how awful his material is when he’s not talking about pushing and moving drugs, maybe I was wrong. Maybe rhyming about coca is just Jay’s thing and although it’s ultimately a destructive thing for the youth as they usually don’t have the comprehension to understand that there’s nothing cool about selling weight, how can you argue when a track like “Blue Magic” is so ba-danging??? What do y’all think?

Digg!

……kingdom come was just over a lot of peoples heads…. but its kind of jay’s own fualt, because he built his fan base on stories of drug deals & street crime (which is the collective mental status of most hip hop listeners)…… I guess niggaz like being lied to…… it shows how dumbed down hip hop has become….. which can only mean the listeners themselves are dumb as well…..

i actually liked Kingdom Come. Wasn’t Jay’s best work, but it was Jay grown up. I’m not a fan of the coke rap. When it’s done right, it works, but i’d rather hear something uplifting. BTW, am i the only one who’s not really feeling that Blue Magic song? It’s ok at best. But if the whole album is like that, I might have to pass on a Jay album for the first time

i like Blue Magic alot, i could see it on NBA Live Soundtrack. Some of jays lines in this are straight fire (fishscales my veins like a pisces), but the flow i’m not really feeling. it goes with the song though, as opposed to Show Me What You Got, where he just spit with no discernible tempo over the hott beat.
