With all the press, flack, and other coverage Nas has been getting whether positive or negative over “Nigga” being his intended album name I thought it made sense to post something to remind everyone about how frequently the “Nigga” word keeps coming up in the Media without Nas. Now its the whole Dog The Bounty Hunter making comments about “Niggers” thats now hitting media outlets.
Whether you like it or not the word is being used. Just this year theres been incident after incident hitting the news with the same racial sentiments and undertones. From Jenna Six, the Imus issue, Kramer calling audience members “Nigga’s” we know theres a problem with racial perceptions in this country. I dont see how anyone can bash Nas at this point for his intended album title without first hearing what its about. The word is “Nigger” being used. We all need to come to terms with it and instead of trying to sweep it under the rug like it does not exist. We all know Nas better come with it if he does go through with “Nigga” as the album title. Not one or two tracks but I expect to see a full album (with skits) with a theme addressing the race issue in America.

I don’t understand why people are critizing Nas for the title, first just here the cd, it might end up having a positive message or just stating truths. This year you have been hearing alot of racial incidents coming out in the open, and honestly people aren’t more racist, it’s just coming out in the open. I fully support the Nas cd, I want to hear what he has to say. I don’t think our black leaders should be so quick to judge, they should maybe be doing more to deal with the issues of racism insteading bashing Nas album title. I agree somewhat with the comment above me that maybe Barack Obama has something to do with this. I was watching C-Span (Yes I follow politics as well) when they have viewers call, and some guy called in ofcourse calling Obama a ‘nigger’ and saying how is he going to run the country, that we are only good at playing ball and entertaining. So racism is just as strong as it ever has been just hidden, especially under the Bush administration’s policy (sorry for the rant, lol) and I welcome this cd from Nas, maybe besides just a marketing tool to sell records (which obvisouly it is) it will also have substance that will address these issues and give us some direction that our civil rights leaders havn’t been doing.

Race will come up as long as it is thought about by people. I dont think Nas should even be looked at funny sytle for his album title (to me Nas is more of a black leader to me than Jesse Jackson and Al sharpton). i think he should not call the album ‘nigger’ or ‘nigga’. instead, he should go beyond the harshness of the word as it stands on its own. if he were to call the album ‘nigga knockin’ then he would be having fun with everyone’s expectations. that would be more interesting. the whole album could be like a hit and run, during which he could make his point about how he feels about the use of the word ‘nigga’.
