The Federation - It’s WhatevaAlbum Review by:

It was not that long ago when the Bay area hyphy movement started to get recognized on a national level. When the Ambassador of the Bay E-40 dropped that raw album “My Ghetto Report Card” and was killing it with the single “Tell Me When to Go” the hip-hop world finally got to see the hyphy side of things. Next up on the roster being exposed was Mistah F.A.B., Messy Marv, and even the Federation. Those big names let it be known how the Bay area gets down, but after that big explosion it seemed to die down. As they say in life once you take a fall you have to get back up. The past few months the Bay area did just that if you stayed on top of what’s going on. You had Mistah F.A.B. come out with the amped-up fun album “The Baydestrian” which was ill and now the trio known as the Federation is showing the Bay area still rocks stunna shades and continues to ghostride the whip.
Now I’m a hip-hop journalist like no other and I’m a keep it real. The Federation has a sound that is very unusual coming from a hip-hop trio. If your from outside the Bay area who might not take them too seriously being a hip-hop fan as some things they say you might feel you can’t relate to. Not saying that Doonie Baby, Stressmatic, and Goldie are not good artist, because them dudes can rhyme their ass off it’s just in a different form. Hearing a song like “18 Dummy” might sound kiddy to some, but it’s actually a fun track. 18 Dummy means to get f*cked up on 1800 tequila, but see what I mean? If I didn’t explain that many listeners would be lost. One song that will tear the club up is “Get Naked You Beezy”. Rick Rock known for the hyphy hits produced this track and his sound effects laced into the track is wild. If you ever seen a hyphy video with all the excitement you can just imagine what would go down if this was played.
Showing love to all the freaky college girls the boys give you “College Girls”. The boys on the song make a rampage through different colleges detailing their different fantasies with girls on their verses. It’s a catchy concept, but hopefully some college girls don’t take offense to this [laughs]. “I’m From the Bay” is where the expression of hometown love is blown up with Bay area proud. Stressmatic, Doonie Baby, and Goldie tell willingly on how life is in Fairfield, Ca where they all hail from. The beat overall could’ve been better, but it wasn’t bad as you can’t forget to rep your hood no matter what. Scrapin is a well known fad out in the Bay and you will learn why on “Rimz”. It has the old-school feel to the music and the song is hot. When you play this on the freeway while driving I guarantee you will be so laid-back cruising the road with joy.
The Federation in all is a hip-hop crew that defines what it means to have fun. I mean every MC or crew does not have to be gangsta to be considered dope. These dudes have funny rhymes, hooks that bring a happy atmosphere, and beats that can rock a show. Peep a listen to “Happy I Met You” with Snoop Dogg and you can just feel their swag. It’s something for the ladies, but it’s not like your typical ladies song. The boys come so smooth and hilarious at the same time letting the ladies know they want some affection. “She Go” is good too and they also give some conscious rap with “Fly Away”. The Bay Area is back on the move once again to give hip-hop the hyphy it’s been missing out on lately and thanks to “It’s Whateva” from the Federation it's back on the scene.
