With the release of his fourth album '5 * Stunna' Brian “Baby” Williams is doing the same thing he’s been doing before the levees broke (no disrespect)…stuntin’. With a record that had Lil’ Wayne on about eight to nine records of the 18 “ballin” track filled album with four Goodfellas themed interludes, the first nine cuts mirrored the last nine.
Redundancy reigned supreme on this album and one line summarized the whole effort. On the record 'I Run This' featuring Lil’ Wayne of course , “…a brand new truck, a brand new bike, a brand new house, a brand new site, a brand new bitch n*gga hood rich life.” This album was one long run-on sentence that could have been done on the same beat by taking out a piano key on one and a drum kick on another.
Everything was used and reused and Baby really didn’t need that many tracks to prove his point. There’s nothing wrong with stuntin…but it seems that this is all he does. The strongest records were the ones that videos were created for, '100 Million' was ill because Dre’s hook and voice blended well over the Scarface stemmed beat. 'Pop Bottles' worked again because of the baseline and the screwed Jadakiss hook. The only other record that somewhat stood out with a hint of individuality was 'Love My Hood' in which the tear drop tattooed rapper attempted to touch on the effects of his Katrina leaden city, but even then resorted back to guns and violence, “…I love my hood, I love my hood, them house back up bitch we up to no good.” That’s refreshing!
5* Stunna says nothing hip hop heads haven’t already heard, but I guess when you’re at the top economically and socially what else is there to rap about? There’s no need to rush to the stores to purchase this album, if you bought one, you bought them all.
