MTV’s Video Music Awards & Hip-Hop: WHEN WILL THEY LEARN?
Article by:

If you watched MTV’s Video Music Awards last week and really paid attention, you’d notice that once again they have revealed just how in tune they really are when it comes to hip-hop.
What absurd transgression have they committed this time you say? The old split trick. Didn’t you notice that there were two separate categories—one for Best Rap Video , the other for Best Hip-Hop video .
Yep, another award show has shown their true colors and failed to realize that they are both one in the same. Of course, any hip-hopper worth his white-on-white nikes knows that hip-hop is a culture, rap is something born out of that culture presented in musical form.
So why did Jay-Z , D12 and 50 Cent get nominated in the Rap category, and Kanye West, Nelly and Chingy get nominated in the Hip-Hop category? Same thing, right? What?
Just cause Chingy ain’t as “hard” as 50 Cent he’s not rap? Just cause Jay-Z has 99 problems and Nelly is only shaking his tailfeather he’s gotta be different? If they deemed a song too “pop” for a rap video then put it under Best Pop Video.
Don’t disrespect the culture and try and shape hip-hop into something that will meet your own corporate demands. Nice job, MTV. Next year get it right.
