Sleepy Brown: Nothing just chillin, having a good time here to support Joi . A gotta get up there with her and do a song.
Dice: Now I dont know if you even heard this before but for me personally man your like a southern Nate Dogg . Not trying to compare you to anyone or anything but..
Sleepy Brown: (laugh) Nah I hear that all the time. Its all good.
Dice: Yeah, you on all the hits brother. Like the new joint with Kurrupt , the Dungeon Family Album, to all the old school joints. Im glad to see you now getting your light. You on videos now and everything..man.
Tell us about that.
Sleepy Brown: It time man, you know.. I been putting in work, for like 10 years so finally its about to jump off for me.
Dice: Thats whatsup man you deserve the attention. Are you working on an album right now?
Sleepy Brown: Yeah im about to come out im on Dreamworks , and I got an album coming out. But its coming out its called "Funkanots" sleepy brown Album. Its hard, its Funky...Its waay harder its waay Gangster.
Dice: Will you be working with the Usual Suspects, like Dungeon Family producers and so forth? Can You elaborate a little bit?
Sleepy brown: Im actually working with some new producers, a producer called " Presidential " thats down with me and they got the first single on the album called "Dulie-Wop". And uhh of course the Dungeon Family. I got "Bubba Sparxx" on the Album, I got "Backbone" on the album, I got Gipp , I got Big Boi , I got Roscoe on the album, so theres alot of flavor on there.
Dice: It sounds official brother, it sounds very official. Now how would you describe your style, I said Nate Dogg and so forth man, but you have a old school like Al Greene , soulful style man, what were your inspirations man?
Sleepy Brown: My inspriations were everything man, everything that was in the 70's, so its like youll hear somthing, a little of everything in there, you know what I mean, I think my style is you know kinda a little similar... little like Nate Dogg. Much love to Nate Dogg its all good cuz he sings on gangsta stuff, so its kinda like the same thing. He paved the way, and just you know trying to carry the ball. He still doing his thing you know but im doing my thing too.
Dice: Well actually you are like on the forefront man, the last seven, eight years the souths been on top right now yall did the damn thing man, we need like a southern soulful crooner nahmean, but like you said yall still on some gangsta pimp *ish, nahmean (laugh) thats whats up man you gonna geet it true form for this one, keep it pimpin?
Sleepy Brown: Oh yeah, its probly not quite pimpin, but it is.. a little something of everything.. its gangsta, its hustla, know what I mean?..Its more like an album dedicated to the husters that go through stuff, and all the relationship stuff and everything...so I know my boys gonna feel me.
Dice: You sould like a very humble, cool, down to earth, brother man. Describe the process of, I dont wanna say as stardom, but like, you being in the music industry for like the last 5-6 years. What have been the ups-and downs, what have you learned?
Sleepy Brown: I have learned alot of things man, like I have gotten big deals and lost them. So thats what kinds of keeps me humble. Every artist will at sometime will loose their head just because of the limelight how it is, and everybody loves you until you do something wrong. You know, so my thing that I learned is just stay focused, stay humble, you know dont act all stupid like your a star and cant speak to folk. You cuz thats my whole thing, cuz thats what we tried to give people from the beginning with Outkast. We tried to show you that the south is humble, we call out our spots all day..."Ben Hill", "Decatur", whatever it is and we will show you love.
Dice: Good way to represent, you just hit it right on the head man, all you cats man, from Outkast , the whole Dungeon Family, yall multiplatinum success put the south on the map, but yall still stay cool,
down to earth man, yall got a nice feel with the streets, yall are very much well recepted and embraced by the streets, im just want to say keep doing your thing man, good luck brother.
Midtown After Midnight...you heard it first.
