Savion Glover Speaks on Hip-Hop and Tap
Midtown Ater Midnight caught up with Savion Glover star of Spike Lee's hit film " Bamboozled ." In the film Savion Glover plays Manray, a homeless tap dancer. Spike Lee says "[Bamboozled] is a piercing look into the past and future of film and television"

Kash: Mr. Glover we have followed your work from "Tap Dance Kid", to your feature film "Bamboozled" with Spike Lee, to your "Its All About the Benjamins" video with P-Diddy. How do you think the art of Tap relates to Hip-Hop CUlture?
Savion Glover: The art of Tap Dancing has nothing to do with the Hip-Hop culture. The art of tap dancing is a culture in itself. Hip-Hop is one thing Rap music is another. Thats another world. Of course im influenced by all types of music, but tap dancing is over there and Hip-Hop is over there.
Kash: You seem to bring the two together. For Tap dancing you made it young again.
Savion Glover: When you say "I made it young again," ...Im from this century, Im of this year, Im of 2004, so that automatically puts me in that wave of young culture. But I was Tap Dancing when Hip-Hop was not so popular, so to say that I am...
I am like Kool Herc [is to] Hip-Hop. When you say Kool Herc none of these people knows whats up, but they know Nelly. So thats the difference between my art form and what you know as Hip-Hop, or rap music.
