T.I. & PSC - Grand Hustle Game (pt.2)
Interview by: Darian Logan
Pimp Squad Clique is made up of five artists straight from Atlanta: Big Kuntry, Mac Boney, C-Rod, AK, and none other than the rubberband man himself, T.I..
PSC’s debut Grand Hustle/Atlantic CD, “25 TO LIFE,” drops on September 20th and T.I. and PSC had alot to say about the PSC Clique, the album, and the rap game laying out the Grand Hustle blueprint with some insight into the rise of southern hip-hop. T.I. took the time to speak on his lead role in an upcoming movie 'Cascades.'
T.I. & PSC Interview below continued from part 1...
NBS: Do you guys have influences in the game? Anybody influenced you to make the music the way you do, or just influenced you to want to rap?
T.I.: Life influenced me. Life and the people around me, the people I seen when I stepped outside my house.
NBS: Now VH1 has honors right, they are honoring these hip-hop cats. Like yesterday we just did an interview with Big Daddy Kane. Is that somewhere you guys see yourself going? Do you see them saying 'I want to honor PSC, I want to honor T.I.P.'
T.I.: Its funny you mention speaking to Big Daddy Kane because Im doing a tribute to Big Daddy Kane on that VH1 show. But I mean hey man if that’s where our career takes us you know and if people have enough admiration for our music you know to want to honor us then great, but as of right now we cant look that far ahead we got to see, we cant look no further than September 20th because that’s when this album comes out. And the most important thing is that everyone who buys this album likes this album.
Big Kuntry: Just like Big Daddy Kane say 'no half steppin' baby. (laugh)
NBS: (laugh) No Doubt. T.I. I hear that there is this move Cascades coming out about the Atlanta skating rink. Tell me about that.
T.I.: Its more than about the skating rink its about the camaraderie between four friends, you know four guys who are about to graduate high school and my character who is the main character man he has his self and gets his self in allot of grown man situations at the age of an adolescent and its just interesting to see how he deals with it. And it just so happens that he is the shit at Cascades skating rink.
NBS: Is this loosely based on your life?
T.I.: There’s some elements of my life and parts of my life in it because I did some skating as a youngster. But there are definitely some definite differences between my life and the characters life.
NBS: Do you guys collabo on this album with anybody outside of the Clique on the album because I noticed you got Lil Scrappy in the video?
T.I.: Lil Scrappy was on the version of 'Im a King' for the Hustle and Flow Soundtrack but its me Mac Boney and Kuntry on the version for the album 25 to life. Other collaborations include Ceelo, Lloyd, Young Jeezy, Young Dro the best thing smoking.
Big Kuntry: Young Dro The best thing smoking. That boy is smoking.
T.I.: He's another grand hustle artist. He's [Young Dro] one of the most charismatic guys next to me you will find in the south. The best rapper next to me Big Kuntry, Mac Boney, C-Rod, AK.
Big Kuntry: What I like about Dro is that he got his own flavor you probably never heard nothing like it.
T.I.: I don’t want to have anything to do with bring up any 'yes' men.
NBS: So anyone on your team can be their own leader and it’s gonna be hot.
T.I.: When it’s all said and done anybody affiliated with the PSC, anyone affiliated with Grand Hustle can go on and run their own company one day and do their own thing and sign their own artists. Aint nobody over here getting fucked outta no publishing, aint nobody over here getting fucked outta no points on no albums, aint nobody over here getting fucked outta no money on no shows. Everybody knows how the business works; everybody knows what to look for, because you know we more than just business partners, we partners. You dig? We just happy to be in business together.
Big Kuntry: We were friends and buddies first.
T.I.: So if one day Kuntry says 'this music shit aint working out for me like I thought it was Im going to do something else' aiight cool. Ill be by later and we'll have a beer and talk about it. You dig what Im saying?
NBS: Any parting words that you want them to know about P?
T.I.: It/s real, there’s more to PSC and more to Grand Hustle than just T.I. and if you don’t believe it by me saying it then go get that album and say im a lie[r].
C-Rod: I got to say we for real about this shit and we here to stay.
Mac Boney: All I want say is the album is concrete and we are concrete, you know just solid.
Big Kuntry: Speaking on behalf of AK, if you want to know about the silent assassin buy the album. This is Big Kuntry on behalf of Big Kuntry speaking on behalf of me (laugh) its real player, real pimpish, there’s a song there for everybody and a ton of singles so go on and buy the album and help us see what the next single will be and we'll holla at ya baby.
