Nyce Da Future - Outside Views

Interview by: Dale Coachman

Nyce Da Future InterviewQueens, New York has produced some legendary artists and classic albums when it comes to hip-hop. Nyce da Future is attempting to be another artist who puts Queens in the forefront as one of the premiere spots that breeds hip-hop’s greatest. Starting out freestyling on the playgrounds, Nyce witnessed first hand what life was like on both sides of the fence. The view that had him behind bars helped him realize that life looks a lot better on the outside. With a number of mix-tapes and the support of G-Unit, Nyce is trying to represent the future of Queens hip-hop culture and music.

Nyce Da Future Quote Nobodysmiling.com : We’ve all heard the infamous stories of Queens. What was your experience like growing up in Queens?

Nyce da Future : You know, Southside Jamaica, Queens, it’s really hard, a lot of b.s. you have to go through and it’s just a struggle out there. All we really have coming out of Southside are music and hustling, those are the two major things in Southside. I took both routes, but this is the route I feel comfortable with doing.

Nobodysmiling.com : What about the music attracted you?

Nyce da Future : I was always in it, back in the day I was always doing freestyles in the park and people would tell me to pursue it but I wasn’t really trying to go hard. Then I got locked up for a little bit and it made me realize that this is all that’s going to become of this if I keep on living in the streets. So I started putting the work in and laying joints down. I grew up with 50 [Cent] and Ye-Yo and I when I saw them they blew up while I was locked up and when I came home they were gone. So I was like if they can do it, I can do it too. So I started to really go hard and I ran into Mobb Deep and we started working together. Then they caught the deal with G-Unit and I ran back into them and we started working from there.

Nobodysmiling.com : Describe your style[s] as an emcee?

Nyce da Future : I mean I’m universal, I can do any song, I can make music for the hood, crossover music, West-coast music and down south music. Although I do all of those, it still comes back to where I’m from and it really relates to a story of how I was growing up.

Nobodysmiling.com : What are some of those images that you talk about on your new mix-tape New Breed?

Nyce da Future : Just memories and flashbacks of what I was going through in the hood. Any song I do is like a flashback of what’s going on in the hood and what I’ve been through.

Nobodysmiling.com : So are you going to follow this mix-tape up with an album?

Nyce da Future : I have a few projects coming out real soon. I have another mix tape that’s about to hit the streets real soon called 38½ which is hosted by [DJ] Whoo Kid. I have a compilation album called MBK Vol. 1 and that’s coming out real soon and it’s going to be on itunes so everyone can check that out. Then I have my whole team MBK and after that is my solo album will be out, its called Top Dollar that should be out the middle of the year and it’s going to be crazy.

Nobodysmiling.com : Being that 50 Cent came out of that same area and put it on the map, do you find it hard coming from under that shadow?

Nyce da Future : Everything you do in life is going to be hard. If you have the skills and talent and perfect the craft you’re going to make it. It takes a little while sometimes because it’s like a struggle wherever you come from. Like they say, we from the bottom so to make it to the top it’s always going to be a struggle.

Nobodysmiling.com : How did you come up with the name Nyce da Future?

Nyce da Future : Back in the day when I was freestyling in the park dudes would always ask me my real name and I’d be like nah I can’t give that to you. So then they would see me again and be like there goes that nice kid and it just stuck with me, I kept that because that’s something the people gave me. The Future came when the Mobb got signed to G-Unit and 50 was saying once this album Blood Money comes out Nyce is going to have to be the future of this and take it over.

Nobodysmiling.com : Do you feel any added pressure with this album knowing Prodigy is about to serve his time?

Nyce da Future : It’s something I always think about because that’s like my big brother right there and it really had me upset that he was going in at this time. Things happen and it’s always been hard for me but I’m not going to cry about it, I just have to keep it going so when he comes home the ball will still be rolling.

Nobodysmiling.com : For you, what constitutes a good album?

Nyce da Future : A good album is when you can put a cd in and listen to the joint from top to bottom without skipping any songs. Also how you compose a song making sure everything is tight and the formula has to be tight.

All the rest of g-unit got the listeners f*ucked up. 50 cent talking about his crib (mansion) and all that other sh!t that brothers hanging on the corner, looking for work, and in the barber shop aint even relating to. When was the last time these dudes opened up their third eye and saw the real stuggle of the poeple. They some fake ass gangstas.
