Most music cranked out by the industry sounds like the same old song. The young generation has been led astray by trash talking artists for too long. I was glad to hear a song with a meaningful message behind it. I am a middle school music teacher in south carolina. Most of my students think hard core rap is the only style of music out there. Young minds are easily influenced...be careful what you expose them to...it just might be your daughter/sister/mother they are "git'n busy wit".

Outstanding video. Really deep thoughts for out community.

This type of music is clasic. I know that every generation feels that its generation of music is the best. My feelings will not be different. This is clasic. There has never been a rap video that has come close to the genius displayed in this message. I would love to see the artist displayed in this piece come together to conduct the same message to this generation. Thank you for preserving this on line and making it available for my generation.

This is the most prolific compilation of hip hop artsists, lyrics, character, and style that i have seen in my short lifetime. When these emcees got together on this, there's no way they were going to fall anything short of amazing. I need this video and the stop the violence movement cd. Mrlajr@hotmail

Self destruction, you're headed for self destruction! great song! great lyrics and meaning

Man we need this again, self destruction is becoming the norm in our black communities. Everybody listening to this or reading this need to bombard media outlets to get this message back out there. Truly a classic, i am writing my local newspaper, stop the violence.

Yeaaah that4s the real hip hop message, you know it, big up!

Self-destruction is one of the most important songs ever made, particularly as it relates to inner city life. It is timeless and i pump it up and spread the messsage of positive self-awareness, consciousness and love every chance i get. All y'all out there keep spreading the message though the road may get weary at times. Peace from the l-train out of new orleans.

Love this song states the beginning of the end of true hip hop, rap has lost its luster any one can get rich the skill of the mc and dj are gone need to bring back the old way of getting our music out! get the other man out of hip hop and make it black and proud once again its a same in 2007 the the best lyrical rapper is a white guy, not taking away from eminiem, but black people in hip hop need to get back to the roots of rap and hip hop make it about something! if i want chicken noodle soup wit a soda on da side ill go to the local diner! i can be reached @ mrhrtbr8kr@yahoo any questions?

This was truly the golden age of hiphop. Those who grew up in this era are blessed and need to encourage the present youth to do the history on the music. Help folks who forgot about the roots to rekindle the classics. I suggest a website dedicated to the positive roots and present champions of thoughtful lyrics. Brooklynbodega does its thing, real heads will reconize. I havent know about this site till now but respect for puttin the classics in the light for all to see. Lift and climb should be the way we deal with one another that way no one falls thru the cracks especially the youth. Im from splfd, ma the "the home of basketball" my hometown is much like every where else, impressionable youths are lost in the midst of violent movies, gangster wannabes, drug and pimp attitudes and lack of supervision or guidence, personally its time to make a difference in our communities not just reminice and wish. Im hip hop since 79 so i know my role is to keep the fire burnin. Those eighties babies had it ruff!!!

Most of my sentiments about this compilation are expressed by others and i too would like to have this video & cd. However, i would like to see a rebirth of this movement

This song starts off very right by saying "america has a serious problem" we must wake up someday. This is my all time favorite rap song which was put together in the eighties and today the same idiocy is still taking place . Here in milwaukee wisconsin we should pass a law that every student starting at fifth grade should watch the video and learn the lyrics. This is a home run hit in the ghetto. Peace and always love one ohter.
