Someone told me about that song and this
is my fist time hearing it but it sounds
like a typical common song common is
more like a poet than a rapper to me but
thats what i like about him
I remember when this joint first dropped
back in like '93. I was feelin it, but
wasnt really on this type of vibe back
then. This was back when the west coast
was really on point, so if sh*t wasnt
bangin a heavy bass line and spittin mad
human drama in the lyrics, then the
industry really wasnt hearin it. But it
wasnt much later that the east came back
up with epmd's 4th joint, wu-tang, keith
murray, biggie, and nas comin with that
real gully sh*t too. So when i look back
at this joint i remember it for its
creativity and poetry, and i think its
this kind of innovation that sets common
off as one of the most under-recognized
lyricists in the history of hip hop.
Definitely a classic!
.......beautiful track..big up to common
4 that..a timeless clazzik
I knew by the second verse he was talkin
about hip hop i was like oo
sh*t..classic
This track is a hip hop classic!
Yo this is hip hop...wit out all the
chains, cars, and watches. This is one
of the katz that didn't sell out
This ish is a hip hop classic
Datz a classic righ ther... Gotta luv
it... Fosho...1
Only 4 when the song came out.... But my
momz played it all the time.."i met this
girl when i was 12 yrs old, and what i
loved most she had so much soul.." yep.
I think that's when i was hooked.
Everyone has already said it hip hop
classic.yo checkout the whole cd..its a
classic 4 real
This song is tight and still tight till
this day... I can listen to this
anytime. The beat is tight 2. Common is
the true mc.
You hear all lil kids today talking
about how they love hip hop and rap...
But they have no idea what real hip hop
is they have never herd of "i use to
love her" or cappadonna "slang
editorial", daz efx, fatal, gza, lords
of the underground "chief rocka"' mos
def "miss fat booty", pharcyde, souls of
mischief "93 till infinity". Just to
name a few... They think what they hear
on the radio is real hip hop.
Beautiful track no dought mon one of
the nicest i must agree with crystals
words of wizdom it pisses me off
too.........tribe called quest,de la
soul,the roots,jeru,guru,mf doom ...
I see there are some real hip hop heads
out there big ups to everyone whom wrote
before me. Crystal i'm impressed as a dj
i always had to cater to the crowd and
when that no limit and cash money
garbage came out that was when i no
longer wanted to dj. I refused to invest
in garbage. Common was cheated big time
this year on all the award shows. They
dont want to hear real artists talking
about real issues they want performers
to get out there and sell us an idea a
gimmick and it makes me sick to the
stomach. You guys forgot a few people.
Bcc heltah skeltah,digable planets, the
fugees,the roots,lost boyz,onyx and
outkast etc etc
I had to do a whole seperate page for
theses guys dead
prez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!! its past time to listen to
them" it's bigger than hip hop"
Wat does h.e.r stand 4!!! i know he's
talkin bout hip hop but wat does it
mean!!!
H.e.r. Has been know to stand for. . .
Historical & early rap hip hop's early
realness but most commonly and what i
think is. . . Hip hop in it's essence
for real
This song is sik
This is one song i always play to people
who say they don't like hip hop. It has
the rare quality of mass appeal yet does
not sacrifice one ounce of intergrity to
the art of what hip hip could, and
should, be. Also, don't forget to add
krs1 to that list!
See, this right here? it aint real
hip-hop. It's true hip-hop!!! this is
what its all about. Yeah, the game has
taken a turn for the worse, but you know
what? two things....1) bad cant exist
without good. And 2) you wont know where
you're going 'til you know where you've
been. For all you aspiriers, take a
listen to where we've been.
Common brings new meaning to hip hop. He
brings back the essence of it's nature!
he creates an allegory for hip hop. His
metaphore was absolutely brilliant. Not
only has he rapped about the origin of
hip hop, but he has done it in such an
intellectual way. This to me is the
beauty of common "sense"!
Right around da time this video came out
u could tell dat a part of da culture
wuz start'n to take a differtent
corse.if comman wuz ever to make a part
2 to this song, the women in da video
would be a very pitiful sight! i could
jus see her now digg'n her own ditch, and
lie'n in it!!???don't feel sorry 4
her,she cauzed her own death! by try'n 2
b sumthing she already wuz da hole
time.she's tire'd and has been live'n 4
at least 31yearz!! a long life 4
sumthing dat wuz not s'poze 2 live past
2 yearz old!!!!!!!!????????????
I'm sorry 4 dat last comment,i should'nt
have said dat!(by da way-classic
video,that shyt iz deep)$$
This is probably one of my all time
favorites, and one of the biggest
inspirations to everything i do with my
music. One of the only songs that i can
always look back on and it keeps my
whole purpose str8 u know. Great song nd
mad propz to common
Song sucks and you all cannot F*ck*ng
speak the language
If this song dont make you fall in love
with hip hop, then i guess you can say
you dont love hip hop????$$???
Remember this song started beef between
common and ice cubemon put out that
song isee the Bia'ch in you.
This was the song that made people fall
in love with hip-hop
If you don't know, hip-hop is poetry.
Poetry is life, stories and everything
around us. Greatest song of all time.
This is true hip hop
This is one of the greatest tracks ever
in hip hop
This kind of hip hop makes me want to
delete the whole bet channel off my
tv!!!! this is when hip hop had many
styles yo, i remember listening to this
song like whoa and digable
planets,pharcyde, pete rock and cl
smooth,public enemy,wu tang,tribe called
quest,ll cool j,krs one, mc lyte,heavy
d, big daddy kane, rakim and much much
more!!!!!!!! everytime i put it on
bet(bullsh*t entertainment) and try to
watch that crap it makes me feel like
"how did this happen?" it's like common
said in the song "but im committed, but
so many n*ggaz hit it that shes just not
the same lettin all these groupies do
her i see n*ggaz slammin her, and takin
her to the sewer" hip hop is a hoe now
everyone is hittin it even people that
can't even blow, point blank anyone can
wake up one morning and say hey i wanna
spit and just go and get a record deal
with no talent at all, probabley a flow,
they shoutin but not sayin anything.
They crazy if they think i'm going to go
out and buy a rap c.d. Nowadays. That's
why hip hop and rap c.d. Sales are going
down because black and latino people
aint feelin it no more..........
Plz take a listen to the sequel of i
used to love her

The first time i heard this song, it was
on a juice mixtape. I thought it was the
best sh*t i had ever heard. The concept
was and still is the greatest sh*t ever
said about hip hop.
I feel that hip hop and all songs that
serve a purpose to make anyone
understand the vibe and soul of it, is a
timeless classic. This joint is the
definition of such. I respect your mind
common, for loving the very essence of
poetry blended with an unforgetable
beat. Thanks for keeping our spirits
hungry for more.
Unquestioned one of the best hip hop
songs in history. Not a big fan of the
video though. Still nothing takes away
from this joint
