Twista #1 on Album Charts
Thursday, February 5, 2004 By: brooklyniteOne
Chicago MC Twista debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with "Kamikaze," ending hip-hop duo Outkast's reign. The Atlantic Records album sold 311,900 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures obtained from industry sources for the week ending Feb. 1. "This album is a product of a determined artist and a label working together," said Mike Caren, senior vp A&R at Atlantic Records, who signed Twista and executive produced the album. "Kamikaze" is the only release to break 100,000 copies sold this week. "It's refreshing to know that a great record will still be acknowledged by the public," Caren added. Outkast's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" (Arista) falls to No. 2 on 84,550 copies sold. Insiders expect a sales spike following Sunday's Grammy Awards as Outkast is up for a leading six awards, tied with Beyonce, Jay-Z and Pharrell Williams.
