KRS-One's Grit Records Drops GRIT CITY VOL.1 Compilation

After creating an underground buzz with two Soul Supreme releases; including his solo-LP, The Saturday Night Agenda, and a remixing of Nas ' Stillmatic (retitled SOULmatic) and on the heels of the recent release of KRS-One's Keep Right, Grit Records releases what can only be considered their very own Soundbombing with Grit City Vol.1.

Dissatisfied with the direction Hiphop was taking, Grit Records was formed in the summer of 2002 by Hiphop legend KRS-ONE and Inebriated Rhythm founder Mahlon Williams and as Williams laments, Grit's launch was designed solely too usher in a new era and sound awe are empowering all hip hop fans that are dissatisfied with the complete and utter demise of radio into what we feel are audible lobotomies to create music that touches on the creative spirit of Hip-Hop music. This label is for the person that wants more from their music and feels that '88 and '94 were great years for Hip-Hop and wouldn't mind recapturing that feeling.

While Grit has been run virtually autonomously since its inception, now that the label is co-owned by undisputed pioneer, KRS-One, their commitment to bringing back grimy beats and real lyricists is that much closer to fruition.

Grit's first label compilation, Grit City Vol.1, set to drop on 9/07/04, highlights the labels next batch of up-and-comers; including Akbar (Who's Who), T-Max, Shuman and Supastition (whose "The Williams" was recently hand-chosen from thousands of entries by ?uestlove himself too appear on Roots Okayplayer Presents: True Notes Vol. 1 ) who demands emcee's step up their verbals on "Step It Up"--- "just when you thought that Urban music was dead/I resurface with the purpose of proving I'm never losing my edge" and already established acts on their horizon; including O.C. ("The Professional"), KRS-One and Soul Supreme who contributes the bulk of the compilations production.
