Jam Master Jay Tribute
Friday, October 29, 2004 By: Dondiego
The family of murdered hip-hop star Jam Master Jay will hold a series of events in January to mark what would have been the Run-DMC' DJ's 40th birthday.
Jay was brutally murdered inside his 24/7 studio in New York two years ago, and now his relatives are trying to keep his name alive by holding a benefit concert and naming a street in his honor.
His brother Marvin Thompson says, "Jason was a major supporter of what everybody did. Around the holiday season, it's hard."
The family has set a date of January 21 for the benefit concert and are currently signing up artists.
They also want one of the streets in New York's Queens neighborhood to be renamed Jam Master Jay Way and have gathered signatures in support of the move to take to the city council.
