50 Cent & Reebok Commercial Protest
Friday, April 8, 2005 By: Dondiego
Dozens of complaints have been lodged with the Advertising Standards Authority over the Reebok ad featuring 50 Cent. The rapper, a former drug dealer who has been a victim of gun crime nine times, is currently fronting its 'I Am What I Am' campaign.
ASA spokesman Matt Wilson said : "The complaints are that the advert is promoting gun and gang culture to impressionable teenagers. They don't think that's acceptable, and we are looking into these complaints."
A Reebok spokesman said: "We do not condone or support every action, choice or view expressed by the hundreds of athletes and entertainers who wear our product. But we do support their right to express themselves freely. We take a great deal of pride in our track record as a company committed to social responsibility."
