50 Cent & Reebok Launch Gxt II Cross Trainer
Monday, June 27, 2005 By: Dondiego
Reebok will continue its strategy of melding sports with music in a campaign in which rap star 50 Cent gets busy with pro athletes. The effort supports the launch of the Gxt II cross-trainer, the latest sports shoe in the G Unit Collection by Rbk, which was formed last year when 50 Cent joined Jay-Z (S. Carter Collection) in Reebok's lineup of musicians with signature athletic footwear.
In the advertisement spot, "Street Sports," 50 Cent shares snippets of his life growing up in New York's Jamaica, Queens, although it actually was filmed in Toronto. We see him playing stickball with Ramirez (Boston Red Sox), in a game of street football catching a pass from McNabb (Philadelphia Eagles) and training on a rooftop with WBC junior middleweight world boxing champ Ronald "Winky" Wright. The spot is played out to 50 Cent's "In My Hood" from his The Massacre CD. The shoe will be available at retail on July 1 with a suggested retail price of $90.50.
