Eminem Seeks Damages for Ring Tones
Friday, October 7, 2005 By: Michael Ivey
Eminem’s publishing companies have filed suit in U.S. District Court against four different companies due to alleged illegal downloads.
According to Eight Mile Style LLC and Martin Affiliated LLC, Cellus USA, Matrixm, Exinde and Fanmobile Inc. have permitted free downloads of “Forgot About Dre” and “The Real Slim Shady” since October ’04.
Martin Affiliated LLC initiates copyrights for the celebrated emcee, and Eight Mile LLC has exclusive rights to his songs throughout the world. They allege unfair competition, unjust enrichment, and copyright infringement. The two companies also seek an injunction to stop the continued dissemination of the songs through the sites. None of the companies accused have releases statements.
