BME & G-Unit to Cross Promote
Sunday, November 6, 2005 By: Michael Ivey
Influential southern producer/rapper Lil Jon and G-Unit powerhouse 50 Cent will join forces to promote their artists. Though details remain sketchy, the two have reportedly agreed to use their brands to market releases under both labels.
The seed for this ambitious deal was planted during last summer’s Anger Management Tour, which featured Lil Scrappy of BME Records. 50 Cent approached Lil John according to him. “While we were out on tour, 50 came to me with the business proposition, and we sat down and worked it out. 50 Cent is going to collaborate and appear on certain projects with BME artists. And I'm going to collaborate and appear on certain projects with G-Unit.” Between Jon’s “Crunk Juice” and 50’s “Massacre” the two sold over 6 million records in the past year, according to sound scan.
Lil Jon is currently under parent company TVT Records, which he says “don't know how to pay people and take care of the people that helped take his label to another level.” Lil Scrappy’s upcoming BME/Reprise Records release will be the first recipient of the NY/ATL cross promotion
