Foundation for Ethnic Understanding Releases Study

Russell Simmons A recent study into Race Relations and Changing Demographics by the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding had its results publicized earlier this week. The study is a breakthrough into just how the younger generations are more adaptable to a changing country as opposed to the older generation. Over 1,300 people, African-Americans, Jewish-Americans and Hispanic-Americans were asked 53 questions on their personal estimations of just how they see the ethnic demographics in their country and their neighborhoods.

The results showed not only a divide in America due to race but also age. Those interviewed over the age of 35 showed more of a resilient atitude towards the changing demographics we are encountering here in the US. The study shows that the racial divide present within America is due to a lack of understanding, a lack of sensitivity towards the realities of racism and the effect it has on minority communities.

It is however of great significance that the younger generations are more understanding of the changes we find ourselves facing. But it is vital that the population responds to the changes and understands the changes we face due to an altering ethnic demographics; as within the next two years New York, Georgia, Arizona, Maryland and Mississippi will join Texas, California, Hawaii and New Mexico as minority majority states. Promoting the fact that the next generation of Americans will more than likely grow up in a complete minority majority America.

The 18-35 age group showed a more rational understanding towards Hip-hop, as a cultural movement, having the power to bring diverse people together and with the attrocities of Hurricane katrina still vivd in many minds, the same demographic believed the government would have responded faster had the affected victims been of a white predominance.
The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding is a Non-profit organization which is led by Rabbi Marc Schneier and Russell Simmons who takes the role of Chairman. It was founded in 1989 and is based in New York and Washington DC. The premise behind the foundation is to 'promote racial harmony and strengthen inter-group relations.'

martymart says:
Word up!!! hiphop is definitely one of the best tools to bridging gaps within communities. But its pretty useless in that respect if 80% of tracks comin' out are basic club anthems about shakin' whatever, or everybody just talks about cars, honies and money. Peeps should keep this nonsense to their personal lives and stop tossin' it into the airwaves.
