Prosecution ‘s Case Against The Inc. Weakened
Friday, November 25, 2005 By: Michael Ivey
Following a day of explosive yet jury-less testimony by a former Kenneth McGriff associate, Judge Edward Korman dealt the prosecution a serious blow. He ruled that no information regarding the May 2000 shooting of platinum rapper 50 Cent will be allowed as evidence. Due to lack of relevance Judge Korman also turned down Prosecutor Pokorny’s submission of Ja Rule lyrics about drug dealing.
When the jury was dismissed Pokorny sought to introduce letters found on Chris Lorenzo’s desk during a 2003 investigation of The Inc. Records. Gerald “Prince” Miller allegedly wrote to his uncle, Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff: “Although I love you as my uncle, I respect you as a Don.” Again, Judge Korman feels this material is irrelevant to the state’s money laundering case against Chris and Irvin Lorenzo. The negative rulings come on the heels of Monday’s shaky, contradictory testimony by the state’s key witnesses, Donnell Nichols and Phillip “Dalu” Banks. When the jury was dismissed for the day Chris Lorenzo reportedly turned and gave his present family members a thumbs up. The prosecution plans to wrap up their case Monday.
