Hurricane ReliefCommon, Kanye, R. Kelly and Talib Kweli are just a few of the plethora of artists who feature on a double disc CD, the proceeds of which will go to the tens of thousands of victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The project Hurricane Relief: Come Together Now, has been encouraged by the response of a ridiculous array of talent from producers to songwriters. The collection which hit shelves on November 22nd features 35 tracks from over 80 artists.

Everyone involved in this project, artists, songwriters, publishers and record companies have waived royalties and have contributed on this project for free. Money raised from sales will be donated to the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and MusiCares Hurricane Relief Fund.

Russell Simmons, Chairman of the Hip-hop Summit Action Network had this to say about Hurricane Relief: Come Together Now, "Responding to the challenges of hurricane relief is an awesome responsibility, yet serving the ongoing needs of those most affected is a blessed cause worthy of our support and giving." The HHSAN is the latest organization to join alongside companies such as Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony BMG.

Other featured artists include Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, Faith Hill and B.B King. FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency recently extended its Hotel Program deadline to December 15th as opposed to Dec 1st for the thousands of people who are being housed in hotels after their homes were destroyed after the Hurricanes hit, after FEMA came under serious scrutiny. The Hotel program provided housing for 85,000 families at its height.

Fema screwed up, but even more so, the government of the city of new orleans screwed up. The city government was responsible for evacuation and they never provided transportation for those who didn't have transportation. After the tremendous f***-up the mayor of new orleans decided that the entire thing was the fault of the federal government. Bullsh!t. George bush has many faults (too many to list here), but the problems in new orleans aren't his fault. It was mayor ray nagin's screw up and i notice that he has never taken any responsibility for his own oversight. Blame governor nagin.

The blame belongs to everyone local, state, and federal they all made mistakes before, during, and after katrina. It's great to see these artists stepping up. By the way has anyone heard anything about the devasted areas and their recovery in a while.
