The purpose of the drive is to provide toys for those who lost their everything in the devastation of Hurricane Katrina at a time of year when it is all about giving. Many families who were displaced due to the atrocities of the Hurricane and were re-homed in New York will be present at the toy drive courtesy of the EARS Foundation and The Red Cross.
The Ears foundation is a charitable organization designed to give back to the urban community through the development of urban music and music education. Tonya Lewis, COO of the Ears Foundation summarizes just why events like this are so needed. "I watched in horror as the lives of people were stripped away by Hurricane Katrina. I saw the faces of children, clinging to teddy bears and toys who lost everything. Although I gave a financial contribution, the holidays are the hardest time to deal with tragedy and many of these people are separated from their extended families. We wanted to create an event where we, New Yorkers, could bring comfort to these families living in our area. We are extremely grateful that Juelz Santana, Sizzla, and Deemi have joined us in that effort."
