GA Congresswoman Wants Tupac in Archives
Sunday, December 11, 2005 By: Michael Ivey
Georgia state representative Cynthia McKinney continues to push for public access to all government records concerning Tupac’s life and death. Her proposed bill would establish a Tupac Amaru Shakur records collection at the National Archives in Washington, DC. McKinney feels his story “should be preserved for historical and governmental purposes.”
Tupac was murdered during a drive by shooting on the Las Vegas Strip in 1996. Prior to the shooting he and his entourage beat up Crip gang member Orlando Anderson in a hotel lobby. Tupac himself felt he was under police surveillance prior to his shooting. His murder case remains unsolved. East coast rap rival Christopher “Biggie” Wallace was murdered a year later in LA, many feel in retaliation for Tupac’s killing.
Cynthia McKinney’s bill has yet to be voted on by Congress. She has been a GA state rep. since 1992 . Her political platform puts provisions for Georgia’s poor and underrepresented at the forefront. Her state is home to the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation Center for the arts, opened this past June.
