Twista Abandons Chi-Roc Moniker
Thursday, December 22, 2005 By: Michael Ivey
Lawyers for Atlantic Records emcee and Chicago native Twista recently released a statement promising not to use the name Chi-Rock (short for Chi-Rocks) again, this the culmination of a trademark dispute between Twista and fellow Chi-Town musician Faheem “BigFa” Shabazz. Shabazz, President of an organization called Chi-Rock Nation, sought exclusive rights to the name Twista has claimed in the past. According to Twista’s attorney David Gold, “Chi-Roc Entertainment has already been dissolved and the registration of the URL 'Chi-Roc.com' has expired. We are in the process of abandoning the trademark application.”
BigFa is reportedly satisfied that those who doubted his motives now see his point. “I wasn't after his money or fame even though I was bashed by his supporters in the streets, in news articles and on the internet as being a liar and an opportunist. I found out that it's hard to win against a "star" because the media most often sways their way.” Among those BigFa thanks for “giving a voice To The voiceless” are Sun-Times, BET.com, Thuglife Army, and The Chicagoist. Shabazz recently filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for “CHI-ROCK.” He also plans to release a record “aimed at the fake gangstas in the rap industry.” For more information visit www.bigfa.com.
