Dre of Cool & Dre to Release Album
Thursday, December 29, 2005 By: John Kennedy
Dre, one of the two minds behind the beats of Fat Joe’s “So Much More” and The Game’s “Hate It Or Love It,” is set to release his presently untitled debut album in April 2006.
“We’re coming out strong with it next year – very strong,” Dre told NobodySmiling of his forthcoming album. “We’re excited, man.”
Dre revealed to NobodySmiling that the album will feature production by Scott Storch, Beat Novacaine, Timbaland, and of course, Cool & Dre, while Mary J. Blige will lend vocals to the hip-hop and R&B flavored opus.
The album will feature lead single “Naomi,” which has a video currently airing on BET. It will premiere on 106 & Park today (12/29).
Dre’s talent is undeniably apparent in his writing skills, which, along with Cool’s, created hooks for hits such as “New York” for Ja Rule and Terror Squad’s “Take You Home.” Dre was also featured on the Diddy-produced Bad Boys II Soundtrack and Fat Joe’s latest album, All or Nothing.
2006 will likely be a busy year for Cool & Dre, as they will be working with Christina Milian and their own Epidemic imprint, among others, while promoting interactive hip-hop battle competition, Battlerap.
“Me and Cool are working on a bunch of projects coming out,” Dre said. “Christina Milian is one we’re excited about because we know how people feel about her. So for her first single, we put her with Young Jeezy. And it’s going to be a problem.”
“Battlerap Online is going to be the biggest thing ever to hit the streets,” he added. “We gonna make people put away their Madden games for this.”
