Obie Trice Talks Shooting
Thursday, January 5, 2006 By: Michael Ivey
On January 1st Nobodysmiling.com reported that Detroit native and Shady Records emcee Obie Trice was shot on a Michigan freeway on December 31st. Referring to the bullet still lodged in his head Trice recently commented: "It didn’t penetrate my skull or nothing, but they didn’t want to go inside my head and mess with the blood vessels." According to him the unknown gunman used a 9 millimeter handgun, which is why his injuries weren’t extremely serious. Obie Trice will soon seek an expert opinion on whether doctors should remove the bullet from his skull. As for motives, Trice is reportedly at a loss: "I really don’t have a take on that, a lot of people are jealous, and jealous, and envious and hateful." Michigan State Police are urging witnesses to come forward with any information they may have. According to state police an unidentified gunman shot through Trice’s back window around 1:10am December 31st, and Trice exited into the Detroit suburb of Southfield where his girlfriend flagged down police. She was not hurt.
Police initially withheld the place where Trice was hit, but manager Terry Wilson soon revealed he was struck in the head on his way from a party hosted by comedian Mike Epps. Trice was treated and released from Providence Hospital the same day. Obie Trice’s career picked up speed when, after some underground mix tape appearances, Eminem’s Detroit protégé set off the platinum rapper’s ’02 single "Without Me", proclaiming: "Obie Trice-real name, no gimmicks!" He also appeared on "The Eminem Show’s" ode to STD’s, "Drips". The same year he rapped on 50 Cent’s heralded debut "Get Rich or Die Trying" (’03), Trice released "Cheers", his debut album, executive produced by Eminem.
