Ice Cube Working On New Indie LP
Tuesday, January 24, 2006 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Ice Cube, one of gangsta-rap’s originators, is working on his latest album, Laugh Now Cry Later. With his mainstream popularity in tact, the rapper-turned-movie exec explained how this LP will be a strictly independent release.
“What is a record company going to do for me that I can’t do for myself? Nothing,” Ice Cube said. “It’s nothing they can offer me to have a major percent of my record. It’s all about ownership at this time.”
“People are caught up in double, triple platinum,” Cube said. “That’s lovely, but what’s double platinum if you not getting double-platinum money? It’s all about what you take home to your family at the end of the day if you gonna make this game a profession.”
Ice Cube’s upcoming release will feature high-profile producers Lil Jon, Swizz Beats, and Scott Storch, as well as rap cameos by Snoop Dogg, Juvenile, and Juelz Santana.
Perhaps known best for his starring role in the Friday film series, Cube says he will not work on any more films until after this album is released on June 6.
