Kanye West Poses as Jesus
Wednesday, January 25, 2006 By: Michael Ivey
Roc-a-Fella records top seller Kanye West adorned a crown of thorns recreating the likeness of Jesus Christ for the cover of the new Rolling Stones magazine, due out this Friday.
"You want me to be great, but you don't ever want me to say I'm great," West asks rhetorically in the interview that also has him superimposed on Muhammad Ali’s frame. West's sophomore album Late Registration has sold over two million copies since its’ August 30, 2005, release and peaked at #1 on Billboard’s top 200 Sept. 17th. Though West is nominated for eight Grammies this year, he’s upset his chart topping single "Gold Digger" wasn’t nominated for best rap song. "That's a gimme Grammy," he told Rolling Stones.
As for his mounting reputation as the artist who will say anything on and off wax (i.e. his post Katrina comment that President Bush doesn’t like Black people) West says, "If I was more complacent and I let things slide, my life would be easier, but you all wouldn't be as entertained." "My misery is your pleasure," he says. West also discusses a new topic: his apparent addiction to pornography. He recalls his first gander at his father’s Playboy magazine saying, "it was like, 'Houston, we have a problem."
