The Roots Jam in Hollywood

Thursday, February 2, 2006
By: Michael Ivey

The RootsPhilly hip hop band The Roots next Tuesday present their Third Annual Jam Session at Key Club in West Hollywood, CA and it’s not limited to industry brass. "We created this event in order to put the focus back on the music and give major artists as well as new talent a chance to take part in a business and musical exchange," said drummer Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson.

Roots emcee Black Thought, comedian Dave Chappelle and actor Don Cheadle will host the five hour, invitation only event. A tentative guest list includes Def Jam President Jay-Z, Roots collaborators Common, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, as well as Will Smith, Will.I.Am. and Kanye West. The Roots signed with Def Jam Left late last year. The Jam Session is produced by Okayplayer.com, Goodtime Girl Productions and Keldof Productions. It’s sponsored by Dave Chappelle's Block Party in association with Live for Darfur, a global campaign that gathers celebrities to help raise awareness for the conflict that has killed almost 300,000 people in the Sudan (Africa).

Love this group......always stayed true to they selves, really play the music, and actually feel their lyrics, class act......remember the "halflife" album (if you never have, do)sh*t is classic...trust dat.....they got the right idea, showcase......not destroy or conquer, boost your fellow musicians, emcee's and beat makers......knowledge...........1

I have to agree spilt..roots are helping hold hip hop down. No beefs in history, and just making good music. Its a reason tha major networks dont want america to see these good examples in hip hop. They would rather show something like grills, or something about shaking azz first, or whips, chains, or selling dope before they show a group like tha roots that promote positivity....but i guess the roots dont have a clothing line, a drink, or may not own guns....so they are forced to take tha back burner.....and stilllllll " i shall proceed and continueeee too roockkkk tha mic !!" -black thought.

Spiltmilk says:
Good look kalli....sad but true friend, sad but true......we've been blinded, so F*ck*n' corrupt out there, nice too see a group stay grounded and level headed about sh*t........1

Kalliope4eva says:
Kinda crazy that this has a few posts, but if it said something like the roots diss nas, or jay z, err'body would be checking on it. Just shows me where hip hop has invested tha' house.

DocV says:
