Rakim Says Upcoming Album Ready by Summer

Wednesday, February 8, 2006
By: Kenny Rodriguez

RakimHip-hop legend Rakim Allah announced plans for an upcoming summer album last week during a concert in New York City.

At B.B. King’s Blues Club, the Long Island rapper said that his seventh studio album, tentatively titled “Seventh Seal,” would be ready for release by the summer of 2006. During his performance he also spoke briefly about his unreleased album on Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label, saying that if he could do it over he “would have taken his talents elsewhere.”

Legendary DJ Kid Capri was behind the turntables in lieu of Rakim’s former DJ Eric B, and the jam-packed venue was attended by various artists including Kool Herc, Pete Rock, M1 of Dead Prez, and Immortal Technique.

I sure wish he stated what troubled the god emcee about aftermath, because i'm confused; dre is a dope producer.......

I belive they had creative differences because both dr.dre and rakim are legends in their own right, i'm just upset they could not work it out.

From what i hear about dre is that he has a perfectionist attitude that sometimes compromises an individual's talent. I would support anything my man rakim comes out with whether it has an aftermath stamp on it or not.

Nah, i think it was just different work styles. Dre had so many projects going on he could only give an hour here and there and let other prod. Do most of the day2day. Rakim would do like 3 days straight and then break for a minute. Cant screw with each style, just dont mash 2getha

I personally feel like they should have put the diffrences aside for the fans sake, that would have been a deadly combination, 2 of the grestest of all time working together, the rap game as a hole would have benifited from that, the god emcee rakim over dr dres beats, one could only wonder.

When people say in the media creative differences it really means that they just didn't like each other. That was just a nice way for the r. To put it so he wouldn't insult dre or nothing like that.

Mayne too bad that aftermath didnt work out...but i was a rakim fan ling before i was a dre fan...and hoping he coomes out with dope record!! rakim-god mc
Posted by sharjiel
Yeah dre just wanted everything to be a certain way with rakim, the east and west coast process are just different i guess. Even though it wouldve been dope, rakim needs to be with a label he's more accustomed to

Dre probably tried and treat the god emcee like he was just another mc at the label and truthfully how can you really come at the person who mastered the craft in the genisis stages of the game like he's just another mc? im sure they both feel they have paid momumental dues to the game and need little to no critique from anyone about work or schedules. Just because dre produces "hot" beats doesn't neccesarily mean he would have blessed the god with the correct formula he needed to appeal to the masses like he once did in the mid 80's. Rah needs a producer who's not trying to just make "hot" beats for an emcee to lay 16's to , but someone who can create beats that compliment his style and mixes in that late 80s aura rah had on lock.

Creative differences blah blah rakim needz 2 be united with primo and other "hardcore" genre, the east coast crunk, producers. He should work with the best of the best period. Rakim's album this time will be sick of course lyrically but his beatz need a monotone sound 2 cater 2 his delivery. Everyone putting rakim the god on beats for emcees with cadence in their deliveries. Rakim is more than an entertainer, rakim is an exceptional werdsmif and i want 2 hear eminem and rakim on a track. The watcher 3. Whew....... Dre is nice for rakim to werk with but not exclusively.
Posted by f0n3
It would have been a platinum piece of work no doubt...but,you can play a beat on a bucket and ra gon kill it at will! so it don't matter who he gets with. ...there are rappers..and then there is rakim!..ok?....point blank!
Posted by coffeecolor-Ms.1
Ok,o here is the deal, rakim being the supeiror(if that is spelled right) rapper that he is took his talents elsewhere, bottom line!. Now if anyone of you out there were smart enough to remember, it was snoop and dr. Dre who wished to work with rakim(back to the lab............etc. Etc,)so dre happened upon this raper........50 via enimem.....or whatever his name is forgot about the king of rap....rakim!............ Or so as we know it! and did not do not do the lord of rap any justice....if dre had held up his end of the bargin.....the album....oh my god......would have been a monstrastitty!!!!!!!!!!!!!if that is spelled correctly...so there for any of you out the with any doubt....the greatest rapper is........of course....F*ck biggie....r.i.p.,....but it is rakim.....hands down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...just check the lyrics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was 16 when eric b and rakim were played on mr magic's rap attack in the summer of '86 on nyc's wbls. It was check out my melody and erib b. Is president that rocked my brain. Every since that day, i knew (as well as all my whole neighborhood in far rockaway knew) that rakim had serious talent that shined well beyond the big cats of that day(think fresh fest, krush groove and beat street days.....no disrespect). He took hip hop to a new level, where intelligence, creativity, poetry and the streets were combined. Then he soulfully exbounded his spirit once he got hold of a mic and laid his tracks for their albums. Our gift. It was because of rakim, rap music as well as hip hop, we saw that a new wave was created, a new wave of thinkers not just rappers. I have a lot of respect for the brothers and sisters who rocked the mic right back in the day, without them, all of this would not have been possible. We all have enjoyed their cuts at the parties, jams in the park and all, but rakim had given us something new, something we haven't heard before, he had given us something special that wasn't elementary in nature (which is what we were used to....(again no disrespect to forerunners who rocked the mic before him) his thought process and delivery were not like anything we've heard and still no one can strike his position in the game, because they ain't no match quote from: lyrics of fury style ya'll. My children have been introduced to rakim by me via cd's in my car. They all know jay z, nas, lil j
