?uestlove Oversees 'Block Pary' Soundtrack

The drummer for Def Jam hip hop band The Roots has gone from "Block Party" musical director to executive producer of the soundtrack for a documentary about the Brooklyn concert. "To me, it's one of the best things that I've worked on," said Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson.
He is overseeing the compilation that includes Erykah Badu, Kanye West, Common, Mos Def, the Fugees and his own Roots band. ?uestlove says he is currently working on mixing down Mos Def’s song. The soundtrack hits retail March 14th through the percussionist’s former label Geffen Records.
"Dave Chapelle's Block Party" covers the pre-production stages of the 2005 Brooklyn concert through its’ execution. It is due in theaters March 3rd. ?uestlove has served as music supervisor for "Chappelle’s Show", Jay-Z’s 2003 "farewell" show at Madison Square Garden and the proceeding documentary, "Fade to Black". The Roots’ Def Jam debut Game Theory is tentatively scheduled for a 2006 release.
