The Ave Spotlights Busta Rhymes & Spike Lee

Thursday, February 23, 2006
By: Michael Ivey

Jay ZThe Spring ’06 issue of urban culture/socio-political rag The Ave Magazine features two artists who have used each other’s mediums successfully, Spike Lee and Busta Rhymes.

Busta holds down the cover and discusses his new home at Aftermath Entertainment, a forthcoming album called The Big Bang and how the dread-less creator has managed to stay relevant for fifteen years. Busta Rhymes has been in the news lately and may be ordered to testify before a New York grand jury because of his lack of cooperation with police concerning the death of bodyguard/friend Israel Ramirez. Ramirez was shot to death Feb. 5th outside a studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn where Busta was shooting a new video. Police think the emcee witnessed the killing and have expressed their disappointment about his lack of cooperation publicly.

Spike Lee has vehemently criticized super thug and ultra pimped-out hip hop images in recent weeks. During an interview with The Ave Magazine he discusses his issues with certain aspects of the industry, as well as reuniting with X and Mo Better Blues star Denzel Washington for his new film, Inside Man. The Ave Magazine continues to highlight social topics with stories about eating disorders within the black community, the complexity of the death penalty and flaws within our child welfare system.

The Ave’s Spring ’06 issue is available in March at all Tower Records, Virgin Mega Stores, Barnes & Nobles and Borders Books.

evenwhenIlie says:
The busta/bodyguard issue is too old to draw a reply from me, as is the spike lee topic and the gangsta/thug rapper bashing..........but the articles in the magazine concerning poor eating habits in the black community they eluded to was right on time! everytime i turn around a n*gga is dropping dead from a heart attack, suffering from suger, or some sh*t! the only thing we suffer from least then anyone else is skin cancer, everything else you can rest assure n*ggaz get it the most! and please don't no one tell me about genes, because if its that, then we must be genetically inferior with all the sh*t n*ggaz suffer from, and you know that's not the case! we just need to start eating with our genes in mind! and stop getting the F*ck high!!!!
