T.I. Readies New Album and Film
Monday, February 27, 2006 By: Michael Ivey
Grand Hustle/Atlantic Records emcee T.I. and director Chris Robinson recently shot a video for "What You Know," the lead single from the Atlanta native’s new album, King. The piece shows a day in the life of T.I. as he attends the premiere and after party for his new film ATL, also directed by Robinson.
Set to hit theaters March 31st 'ATL' centers around "Rashad" (T.I.) and three friends who have just graduated high school. The film spotlights Atlanta’s famed "Jelly Beans" skating rink which both T.I. and Chris Robinson frequented as teens. Songs from King (scheduled to be released March 28th) featured in the film include "What You Know," "Front Back" and "Ride Wit Me." T.I. will appear at screenings and listening parties the week of March 20th in Houston, Dallas, Chicago, and Detroit.
The week of March 27th he will attend larger premieres in Atlanta and Los Angeles. "What You Know" has already premiered on 106 & Park and T.I. will appear on the show as well as MTV’s TRL on March 27th, the day before King hits stores. He will also appear on MTV’s Direct Effect, Sucker Free Sunday (March 26th), BET Style and Rap City in March. The self proclaimed "King of the South" will sponsor two teen girls this summer through his music sponsorship "It's Cool To Be Smart: Single Parent Initiative," continuing his ongoing commitment to the Atlanta Boys & Girls Club. T.I.’s "U Don't Know Me" from the Urban Legend album was nominated for a 2005 Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance. He won the Vibe "Street Anthem" award for the same song.
