Toure Interviews Jay-Z & Nas on BET
Friday, March 3, 2006 By: Michael Ivey
Journalist/novelist Touré’s post reconciliation talk with enemies-turned-partners Jay-Z and Nas airs tonight on BET at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Executive Producer of BET News Programming Selwyn Hinds says Beyond Beef draws viewers closer to the action than MTV’s All Eyes On: Jay-Z & Nas with Sway Calloway, their first joint interview since they joined forces at Def Jam late last year. "The MTV interview was very grand and in this open space, while our piece just has three cats- Jay, Nas and Touré, who look comfortable with each other and are having a real chat," he said.
The discussion centers around Jay and Nas’ heated battle, their mutual respect, and the state of hip hop. While MTV’s program saw the emcees allude to Cam’ron’s Jay-Z diss without mentioning his name, Hinds promises "a very distinct conversation about Cam’ron" on Beyond Beef.
"This is an interview, but it really is a conversation with three grown men talking about grown men shit," he said. Touré wrote a feature in the December issue of Rolling Stones magazine about Def Jam’s president called "The Book of Jay," an experience that made him the ideal interviewer for this session according to Hinds.
Touré has worked as a contributing editor for Rolling Stones since 1997, with features on 50 Cent, Alicia Keys, Eminem, Lauren Hill and DMX under his belt. He became CNN’s first ever "Pop Culture Correspondent" in 2004 and has published collections of fiction and his stories published in the Village Voice, the New York Times, the Believer, Playboy, Rolling Stones, and Tennis Magazine.

Dayem...all these interviews..i hope its not like the one on mtv cause both of them boys looked suspect as hell. I mean, they have said that it is a money thing, but man that always turns out bad. (cube and n.w.a., n.w.a. And easy, dre and suge, parrish and e. Sermon, mac 10 and cash money, cam'ron and rocafella, and most recently game and 50..sports..karl malone and payton going to the lakers, terrell owens with illadelph) all unions made just for money it seems like. I dont deal with anyone that i cant get along with, and they trying to do it with major money involved. I love the idea im just interested on seeing how they are gonna deal with each other cause sway wasnt really pressing and i looked like jay and nas were saving each other in those hard questions, some of it was still in the air. Man, i hope two brothers come thru and make a classic because the idea is good but looking at history i dont know.
