Common Recording New LP With Kanye's Help

Monday, March 6, 2006
By: Kenny Rodriguez

CommonAs Common heads back to the studio to record his seventh album, Finding Forever, he is calling on fellow Chicago producer Kanye West to help out once again.

“The title is about creating music that can be here forever, music that can last,” says Common. “I’m just trying to find that place. I find that, with the albums, they just start shaping themselves.”

With Kanye handling the majority of the album’s production, like he did on Common’s 2005 album Be, the rapper hopes to repeat the success of his last release. The LP has sold over 769,000 copies in the United States, and has received critical praise – including the classic XXL rating in XXL Magazine.

"I'm very, very pleased, grateful and enthused about making music. I want the best," says Common. "The sky's the limit. With this album, I feel like I can have a million records sold, Grammys, BET awards and some top 10 singles. There are no limitations. I just gotta make the music from the heart and let the rest take its course."

The Chi-town rapper also recently made his acting debut in the upcoming film “Smokin’ Aces,” which features actors Ben Affleck, Jeremy Piven, Andy Garcia, as well as first-time actress Alicia Keys. He can also be seen performing in the new concert film “Dave Chapelle’s Block Party,” which opened last weekend in theaters nationwide.

DjPhiziQue says:
I cant wit for his next instalment, be was like the stillmatic for common (excluding the beef lol) im hopeing we get more than just 11 tracks this time lol

Eric young Infinite says:
Oh yeah, chi town in the building, i feel another classic coming, my man common has always been a great emcee, im glad that he is finally getting the props that he truely deserve, i see that cense251 is a true fan of hip hop, when you metioned pete rock, & cl smooth, that brought back memmories fam, them cats are two of my favorite, that comparision is right on point.

cense251 says:
Good looks... Oh yea god! im from the old new york- where real skills-beats-originality-content-creativ ity all mattered. Pete rock is one of the greatest producers(hes so underated). And cl smooth one of the greatest lyricist/and illest flows ive ever heard.on this album-it would be dope to have some premiere-large professor- maybe some beat minerz- or prince paul- maybe a beat from( jay dilla rip)- no id -along wit kayne-omg sick....

ChrisG says:
1 of the most realest mc's out there, now and then.........he speaks the truth and i cant wait for the new joint 2 drop... Seen him on def poetry

shortybeebop380 says:

Did you not notice the other comment beebop

Kalliope4eva says:
Djphiz i think he could have had more than 11 on the last one but he chose to just ryde kanye....i liked the cd but the game so watered down to where any real cat coming out with a cd is gonna get classic stamped all over it. But it was far from a classic in my opinion (just an opinion). I think that it didnt have a real focus on the cd (just sounded like a bunch of kanyes leftovers put together in a hurry to supply the demand of real hip hop)....i liked water for chocolate better because the beats that the soul squadrian (questlove and the band from the roots with deangelo on the board) did fit him better. Kanye did bless it dont get me wrong, but in my opinion he just rode it because 'ye was hot. But if he was really feeling kanye he would have put him on along tyme ago. But like jay said from a distance its hard to tell who is who.....or what is what.

Kalliope4eva says:
But dont get it twisted i did have can i borrow a dollar (not the cd tha' tape ) and i rep him hard cause he went to southern university.....and i also have err'cd he has besides that electric circus experiment (life without badu phase ) he put out.

Black Congress says:
Awaiting another classic!

Eric young Infinite says:
All these little shorty's(get it) hating on my fellow chi town breadrens, people can say what they want about kanye, but the numbers dont lie,(check the sales playboy) and as far as common, jay z said it best, truthfully i want to rhyme like common sense, so you gotta give credit where credit is due fam, men should'nt be jealous that's a female trait shorty (get it).

cense251 says:
Werd up........ I support com-he from chi town-but he reminds me of a an ny cat. Matter of fact chi-new york is simular in a lot of ways. So its always a good look.

shortybeebop380 says:
Jealous...imma nigg@...uh real n*gga cuz...jealous of uhnother nigg@...hahahaa..that sh!t funny too...but anyway...i ain't hatin slim...i fvcks wit the chi cuz...but twista holdin that sh!t down!...ain't nobody gonna bump common in their whip n' sh*t...so whack! and don't call me that lil' shorty sh!t no more...

cense251 says:
Oh sh*t eric! duke said dont call him shorty no mo(snap, snap) guess he told u lol. Bop a grown assssssssss man now we better start respecting him lmao-bop is clown.

shortybeebop380 says:
Fvck u slim...u gay as sh!t...it's already known! u uh wild dude....u the main one out this joint suckin everybody's penis in the industry on this joint....and i'm the clown...hahahahaaa.yo'''go back and read all this bamma @ss nigg@ cense's post and you'll see....you's uh f@g!

BINGO says:
Thats good news for hip hop. Be was the best album of 2005. I hope he does a few songs on there with premo and n o i. D.

Ahmad says:
Nah be was definently a classic. That album was about just taking life in and being in the moment. Him and kanye are a perfect match when they get together they make the best music in the game. You telling me the corner wasn't a classic record? are you crazy? the whole album was hot from beginning to end, i never have to skip a song when i listen to that cd. I think he definently will go platinum with this one because everything kanye touches turns to gold or well platinum. Just think about it every album that this guy produced was considered a classic. Kanye and common make magic.

cense251 says:
Be-bop yous waste of vaginal fluid.

Kalliope4eva says:
Ahmad i feel that....my patnas drill me over that all day, but i didnt think it was....i dont know, maybe because err'body called it a classic before it even hit the shelf.... Im not saying my word is tha final say at all because i feel like jeezy had the best cd of 2005 hands down..be caused a few ripples but jeezy was tha' tidal wave. Overall i think that 2005 was a good year and it should be a good one for 2006 too.

Kalliope4eva says:
And to say that everything that kanye produced was a classic is pushing it.....i like his production too, but just because he produced a few on shynes cd would you call that a classic too?

617thebloodybean says:
Yo cant wait 4 that album joints gonna be fire!!!!

Eric young Infinite says:
Short,shorty,shorty,shorty,shorty,...a cense, we better beware of the internet thug lol, shortys a kiila.....not

Eric young Infinite says:
Oops, i meant killa.....not

cense251 says:
Im tellin you-sun got me shakin over here in ny.lol hes a joke.... Im tellin u he doin all this smack talking. But back in the 80s cats got murked for far less then sh*t talking. U cant sweat jokers like him.. If you over 23 we come from a total different era. Dis generation of n*ggaz are ignorant parasites-wit no direction. Them older gods from the 70s and 80s didnt go out they way to proove thier gangsta-you jus know not to F*ck wit em- and if u did it would be ya ass.

Iluvmusiq30 says:
Be was and will be a classic. I'm confident that common will surpass be with this new project comming out. I'm waiting for this classic album to bless my eardrums and my soul. Hip-hop is king. Peace.

MotionMan06 says:
"i see another banger from these two. Its like pete rock n cl smooth re-invented." -not even close, how can you compare those two to pete rock and cl smooth. Your trippin dogg.

cense251 says:
First off..... Its just a reminder thats why i made the example. Maybe re-invented may have been a bad choice of werds, but any one should be able to get my drift. So im not trippin.

DaReal says:
Hopefuly kanye can take his time on this. Be was clearly rushed. It was a great cd, but i can't say classic. Its a classic in comparison to todays rap. But in the overal scheme of things it won't be.

shortybeebop380 says:
Eric young don't bother me...anybody else think they bother me...they don't bother me!

rholihlahla says:
Itz always been a a dream for me to hear common spit with nas over a premo or 9th wonder beat...or maybe kanye's.nas is as versatile as sh*t gets, from that street gangsta sh*t, to a highly intellegent educated nasir.i rushed to the stores to by "be"i listened to it almost everyday and there was always somethin missing.i hope this time we'll get to "be" given mmmm given some mcee common style! i know itz going to "be" what a pitty dilla gone!....kanye"beat"common feat lauryn hill..mmmm...or damian marley!...no 50's talked about in this league byow! ain't no bubble gum hypepehop sh*t!
