Common Recording New LP With Kanye's Help
Monday, March 6, 2006 By: Kenny Rodriguez
As Common heads back to the studio to record his seventh album, Finding Forever, he is calling on fellow Chicago producer Kanye West to help out once again.
“The title is about creating music that can be here forever, music that can last,” says Common. “I’m just trying to find that place. I find that, with the albums, they just start shaping themselves.”
With Kanye handling the majority of the album’s production, like he did on Common’s 2005 album Be, the rapper hopes to repeat the success of his last release. The LP has sold over 769,000 copies in the United States, and has received critical praise – including the classic XXL rating in XXL Magazine.
"I'm very, very pleased, grateful and enthused about making music. I want the best," says Common. "The sky's the limit. With this album, I feel like I can have a million records sold, Grammys, BET awards and some top 10 singles. There are no limitations. I just gotta make the music from the heart and let the rest take its course."
The Chi-town rapper also recently made his acting debut in the upcoming film “Smokin’ Aces,” which features actors Ben Affleck, Jeremy Piven, Andy Garcia, as well as first-time actress Alicia Keys. He can also be seen performing in the new concert film “Dave Chapelle’s Block Party,” which opened last weekend in theaters nationwide.
