2006 Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival Finds Home
Wednesday, March 8, 2006 By: Michael Ivey
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy today announced that the 2nd Annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival (BHF) will be held in The Tobacco Warehouse. "The celebration of Hip Hop music and culture will certainly provide exciting and diverse entertainment for friends and families of all ages," said Mary Ellen Kris, Assistant Deputy Commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
As apart of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy’s free programming campaign, Room Service Productions and Brooklyn Bodega will, on June 24, 2006, present a day of Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul, and R&B performances. Marianna Koval, Co-Executive Director of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, anticipates that the BHF will attract people from the entire state of New York, and across the country, to Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park overlooking the East River. "Our mission is to shine the light on the positive aspects of Hip Hop culture," said Koval.
According to last year’s BHF Chairperson Wes Jackson the mission of the celebration is to show the world that hip hop culture and the borough of Brooklyn are more about diversity, creativity, peace, and family than violence, urban neglect and materialism.
