Russell SimmonsThe Hip Hop Summit Action Network, lead by music industry pioneer Russell Simmons, is prepping the 2006 "Get Your Money Right" tour to address widening debt in the U.S. "Poverty and basic lack of knowledge must be challenged," says HSAN Chairman Simmons. The tour commences March 25th at Detroit's Wayne State University and makes stops in New York (April 22), Miami (May 20), Atlanta (September 16), Los Angeles (September 30), and Dallas (October 14).

HSAN, known for community outreach and education, is responding to what the Economic Policy Institute says is an almost 36% debt increase per household over the last four years. Simmons says "Get Your Money Right" is not just a tag-line but an attainable goal. "We have high aspirations, but we know to fulfill the aspirations of the hip-hop generation, we have to take the subjects of financial literacy and empowerment seriously and talk with youth in a manner appealing to them," says Simmons. Sessions will include panel discussions moderated by HSAN President/CEO Dr. Benjamin Chavous, featuring financial experts, hip hop artists and Russell Simmons. "Get Your Money Right" is sponsored by Chrysler Financial and Anheuser-Busch.

Shorty...you got to change your view. Money isnt everything. Thats the misconception. Alot of these people like russel simmons and p.diddy are making money no doubt...but their drive is not money. Their drive is to make a difference and also that they have a passion for what they do.

I agree.

The love of money is the root of all evil- this love has lead to all kind of evil acts across the werld. Money can buy happiness, but thas only material happiness. Tru happiness can come from god, doing the right thing, tru love, family, good friends, giving back, helping others, and making a difference. I think the action netwerk may do alot of good for the image of hip hop, and the community on a whole.

The people who make money in this world make it because they have a sense of purpose. A passion for what they do. You cant make money in this world for the the sake of only making money. It doesnt work that way.

I third what cense, and mejuru are saying. These artists are making money, but the majority of these kids are out here screaming their ballin but take out the trash at burger king, and then spend all their money on useless crap. This is why our generation is so screwed up

I am glad that russell is doing this. For a long time now it has been time for everyone to get their money right. You hear people on the radio yelling about royalties and contracts and all that. If their money was straight from the door, they wouldn't have to stress. I would have to disagree with the statement that the love of money is the root of all evil. There are much greater evils out there that have nothing to do with money whatsoever and one of those things is called ignorance. These kids at bk are taking out the trash, blowing their check on fake ass jewelry and knock off clothes so they can live the life of a star, working at bk. That's ok for young kids. Young kids are supposed to blow their cash on bulls***, that's what they do. When you see a grown ass man blowing cash on some flashy crap, you know there's a problem. At least save a little longer and get the real flashy crap, not the plated. Anyway, i think russell got it right when he made this the get your money right tour. I've seen people get evicted because their financial priorities were not in order properly. I really hope this is proper, cause alot of people need some money management classes or something.

Empower yourself! empower the american inner-city nations! 'nations' within a nation - our inner-cities are 'nations' impoverished 'nations' deserving of all the billions in aid america sends israel, jordan, egypt, and any other of its allies of convenience. Take care of home! take care of the american ghettos. Adopt black american orphans, fund inner-city health programs and education programs at the same level we fund foreign countries and their war machines. We need an alternative to the democrats and republicans - a change must come! congressmen, senators, governors all are paid from the taxes - 'they are political welfare recipients' living large off of public funds! posturing like corporate executives as if the country was their corporation – their private piggy bank! they have forgotten they are public servants of we the people and it is no longer self evident! having said this let us focus on a pressing issue we must address! black america's inner-cities- one of the worlds top 10 economies the annual spending reports disseminated by chicago-based target market news note that the gross domestic product of black america - the total amount spent on goods and services is now estimated to be up to $900 billion a year. This places black america among the top 10 world economies, compared to countries such as great britain, russia, germany and japan. With all this wealth how is it we are so impoverished? how are we spending ourselves into poverty? this money is going somewhere or is it all going
