Lil Kim's Pre-Lock Up Documentary a Hit
Wednesday, March 15, 2006 By: Michael Ivey
The premiere last Thursday of Lil Kim: Countdown to Lockdown garnered over 1 million viewers, making it the most watched series debut in BET history. BET President of Entertainment Reginald Hudlin expressed great pleasure at having his first series become a "must see."
"As powerful as the first episode is, the series finale is even better," said Hudlin. According to Atlantic Records sources Countdown to Lockdown is the #1 original series among African American households so far this year.
"I'm grateful to Edmonds Entertainment for delivering another great show for the network, and to the entire team at BET for fantastic work in every department," said Hudlin. Countdown to Lockdown chronicles Brooklyn rap star Lil Kim’s final fourteen days of freedom before she begins a 366 day stint in federal prison on perjury charges.
Edmonds Entertainment and Kim’s own Queen Bee Entertainment shot six episodes of Christopher "Biggie" Wallace’s protégé juggling personal affairs, promoting a new album, shooting videos and partying. The show airs on BET each Thursday at 9:30PM. Lil Kim was sentenced to a year and a day in a Pennsylvania prison for lying to a grand jury about her friend’s involvement in a 2001 shooting outside New York’s Hot 97 radio station.
