The Roots to Headline Star Studded Party in New York

By: Michael Ivey

The RootsDef Jam and The Roots continue to build momentum for the band’s label debut, scheduling a two night bash for May 18-19 at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

"Our fans should pretty much know that our New York shows are the most special shows, simply because we have been known to pull some amazing rabbits out of our hat," said drummer/composer Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson. The Roots will offer up new music from their upcoming album, Game Theory, due late summer/early fall, and rock with some of their most revered peers.

The Thursday night show features Nas, Common and Talib Kweli, among others. Erykah Badu, Mos Def, J. Davey, and Angelique Kidjo will join the band Friday night. "Every show we've ever thrown in this city was a footnote and an exercise in surprise. Why deprive yourself now?," said Thompson. The show is sponsored by Verizon and produced by Festival Productions, Okayplayer, and Radio City Entertainment, and part of the proceeds from the party will go to the effort to support the family of producer J Dilla, who died last month of complications from Lupus. Tickets are now available at all Ticketmaster outlets.
