Lupe Fiasco Added to BK Festival Lineup

Organizers of the 2nd annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival have locked down burgeoning Chicago emcee Lupe Fiasco for their eclectic concert on June 24. "Adding an artist of Lupe's stature makes a strong connection with the young hip hop fans looking for an artist that represents their struggles," said festival organizer Alma Geddy-Romero.

Lupe’s Islamic upbringing and blend of street knowledge and social consciousness compliment the overall theme of the event: showing the world that hip hop culture is more about diversity, creativity, peace, and family than violence, urban neglect and materialism. The video for his first single "Kick Push," an ode to skateboard culture, debuted March 31 on BET’s 106 & Park.

"When I first heard "Kick, Push" I knew that Lupe was a special talent and we had to have him for the show," said Geddy-Romero. Lyrical pioneer Big Daddy Kane is slated to headline the festival. Lupe Fiasco has gained momentum the past year through his free online mix tape series, ‘Revenge of the Nerds.’ Lupe Fiasco's FOOD AND LIQUOR, due in stores June 27, examines life’s balance of good and bad. I was up n chicago 6 or 7 mnths ago and was hearin bout this dude. U can tell from 1 or any of his songs how much differnt his thought process is from a lot of other rappers out right now. This dude is the truth. A lot of ppl prolly aren't gonna feel him cause he aint talkin bout slangin,shootin, or Bia'ches in songs. And sadly thats gonna hurt his sells. But... Not to be disrespectful, but there aint not one n*gga from the south thats better than fiasco, anybody that says lupe is garbage obviously dont know sh*t about hip hop, this dude is on a hole nother level joe, there aint to many n*ggas in the rap game period that spits sh*t like he do, why the hell you think hova himself is executive producer of his ablum, and where do you think kanye got the idea for that diamonds remix, lupe made a mixtape song over that diamonds beat called conflict diamonds, one of the hottest songs ever, and kanye heard it and told lupe that he was going to make another version like that, so basically he bit the concept from fiasco, this dude is the future of hip hop, and whom ever dont like lt, F*ck you, chi town westside on the rise, and you dont really want a problem with us guys, dont get me wrong, i love the south, bun b, outkast, young jeezy, lil wayne, and my man t.i, ther some of the.....good guys of the south.....get it.

Eric, man...... You can't say "not to be disrespectul" and then disrepect everything the south has built. Your putting a few tracks from lupe up against life long careers of southern artist. I understand ur from the chi so ur comments are bias. I know 1st hand that lupe could be a lot better than a lot of artist, not just from the south. But we are just going on what little we've heard, and his upside for greatness. And all that upside means is he aint did it yet. Seems like artist and fans need to validate their own sucess by downing other rappers or regions. Anyway........ Big up to lupe, glad to see a socialy conscious artist coming from a diff angle. Feels like a breath of fresh air

Peace to the gods and earths and the positive people of the universe. I think lupe is lyrical titan. It'll be interesting to see how his career progresses under the guidance of kanye and jay. I would love to see him work with beatsmiths like premier, pete rock, and dj quik.

Frist of i wasnt trying to be disrespectful, i got much love for the south, it's just that i was basically adressing homie, ( bad guy of the south) by him saying lupe is garbage, he basically sh*tting on chicago music, so i had to say something about that, but chicago music is in no way shape or form chessy or caramel type sh*t, chi town is the home of gangsta's, this is merc city, just ask young buck, that n*gga came to chi town for a concert, and bump j and them goon sqaud n*ggas robbed his ass, took his chain and everything, dont get me wrong, im not bragging about the chi being grimy, but thats just the way it is, so dont let common, and kanye fool ya'll, n*ggas in chi -town spit that gutter sh*t, as well as that real hip hop, none of that laffy taffy crap thats damaging the rap game, so no disrespect intended, but if you affended, then so what.

That cheese and caramel popcorn had me going back to john's (downtown) all the time.
