Saturday, April 8, 2006 By: Michael Ivey
Some dedicated Hip Hop artists have signed on to instruct free courses as part of the Smirnoff Movement Studio, between April 13 and May 4 at the Paul Robeson Theater in Brooklyn.
The Smirnoff company says it organized the three week session to give aspiring students the skills to break into the music industry. The alcoholic beverage company has recruited Jean Grae, Kamal Gray and Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson of The Roots, renowned graffiti artist KET (the founder of Stress magazine), and Supa DJ Peter Parker, among others, to teach classes such as: The Business of Music, Wheels of Steel 101, 201, and 301, Making Paper: Turning Art Into Dollars, and The Art of Graffiti.
Hip-hop Dance 101, 201, and 301 will be taught by dance instructor Kamaya Jones. Her clientele includes Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige and Kamal Gray. Jean Grae studied vocal performance in high school and majored in Music Business at New York University. To register for classes visit www.smirnoffstudio.com.
